What is a gal to do when her life is in the pits? For Tavey McDaniels it was truly a no brainer – work, work, work. Throwing herself into work was exactly what she did, and now it was showing. Tavey was so deep into her Job as Chief Financial Officer anymore she was lost in a world of numbers, using them and the work of keeping them balanced to block out the pain of a failed relationship, and to prevent herself from getting into another one. She felt one was one too many, and work is definitely her way to save herself the trouble of landing herself back into yet another heartbreaking situation again. There is only problem with Tavey’s method. She keeps forgetting she is not a machine, and neither are those on her staff. She has hidden away from the world and contact with anyone outside a spread sheet and a memo. Her staff is unaware of the praises she sings, she forgets to tell them. She is withdrawn, and some worry for her. In spite of what she thinks, Tavey does have friends on her staff who really are worried. Her accounting staff like and respect her even if they haven’t really seen her for very long outside her office. Yup, it is a rude awakening when Jack, the CEO, literally forces her into going to the company’s Valentine Mixer at the Wild Plum. With absolutely nothing to wear that says party, what is a gal to do?

Of course he felt it was his job to see that his recalcitrant Chief Financial Officer didn’t bite the dust because Jack Kessler had been tipped off by her assistant. Margot. From what she had told Jack, he knew Tavey had not only forgotten the Valentine’s Mixer, he also knew Tavey was riding the edge of exhaustion. He had never paid much attention to Tavey except for the normal business contacts. They were partners, and although Jack and Tavey were never close, he did, however respect her talents. He knew the company depended on the sharp, savvy and very dedicated woman. From the beginning, he learned exactly why Tavey was brought in on the ground floor, and Jack has always admired her ability to pinch a penny and make a profit while doing it too. They couldn’t ask for more from a partner, and her accounting department, but her friends, and coworkers were worried. The fact that Margot approached him told him volumes, and Jack was not one to take those things lightly. Tavey needed to get out, to lighten up, and to have a bit of fun, so Jack found himself in the very uncomfortable position of making sure she got to the party at the Wild Plum. What Jack wasn’t expecting is the swan revealed by a daring red slicker, and the possible results of the daring outfit Tavey wore.

Slicker is one sharp, sassy, super sexy read you won’t want to put down. Jade Rivers has created a story of a repressed and totally clueless woman who is working her way to disaster. Work-a-holics have nothing on Tavey, and when one of her staff goes and lets out her worries about Tavey’s work habits, Jack forces her hand. Taking her almost by force to the party might be the only answer for Jack, and a stop at her apartment leads to some very unusual choices. For a woman who was and is trying to remain in the background, Tavey's wardrobe is suitably dull, boring, and very unflattering. Until now it has been exactly what she needed, What happens when the only thing you have to wear to a Valentine’s party is your mother’s old red slicker? What if there are no shoes and only a pair of high white boots? An outfit like that can really turn a man's head, and when the swan appears from the frump, there are some fun, sexy times in the offing! I guarantee you things get a lot hotter and more exciting for Tavey and Jack. Well, whatcha waiting for? Get busy, and start trolling, and look for Slicker from the fine folks at Aspen Mountain Press. It is a very satisfying and fun short read you won’t regret getting.

Yours in good reading,

Rose!
