When Phaedra Wharton’s sister, Holly goes missing this small town veterinarian’s well ordered life slowly unravels. Since their parents passing some years ago, the two sisters became extremely close; never breaking daily contact, including keeping each other aware of their comings and goings. After several days of no contact, and never returning calls, Phaedra leaves for her sister’s apartment in Vancouver. There she finds no signs of break-in or any type of struggle; still her worse fears are not eased. When enlisting the help of Police Detective Curtis Roth, Phaedra gets more then she expected.
A delightful, well written short story, Ms. Blair thrills her readers with a simple mystery though overshadowed by the erotic intensity between her primary characters. Back home, Phaedra and Baxter are lovers-of-convenience and it shows when he’s obviously detached towards Phaedra’s concern over her sister’s uncharacteristic silence. Still their sexual exploits deliciously carnal and quite memorable, also motive for Baxter’s apparent concern in loosing out on his daily sex, should Phaedra go looking for Holly. Quite a self-centered and definitely not a family man either.
In spite it if all, Detective Curtis Roth makes up for Baxter’s lack of compassion, taking the case of Holly’s disappearance seriously. Although from his experience, most cases such as this the victim turns up after enjoying a spontaneous vacation. As days pass Phaedra’s worry increases, as does her lustful yearning for the hunky detective.
When the pressure becomes too much, Phaedra forgoes feeling guilty about cheating on Baxter and worrying over her sister. She practically jumps the detective’s bones in the elevator. Now privately inside her sister’s apartment Curtis takes Phaedra against the wall, relieving the mounting sexual tension between them; as well as some stress surrounding Holly’s disappearance. Whoooooo! Obviously well built and sturdy characters who support a plausible suspenseful plot.
Rapture, published by Whispers Publishing, to this reader hails as a fantastic read!
