An engrossing, disturbing story that originated in Murder By Numbers, March Madness continues Sharon and Gail’s deviant relationship. Captivating with a macabre undertone, the story unveils two psychopathic women in their quest for sexual fulfillment when their charade is jeopardized by Gail’s arrest; ending a murderous storm that spans many years. Her lawful custody is short, breaking free while still being transported to jail. Her escape begins a months long stalking that only Sharon, her partner in crime and voyeuristic sex, can appreciate.
Ms. Blaine holds nothing back in describing these two women’s fetish for deadly carnal thrills, sucking the reader instantly into the warped mind of Sharon, who narrates this story. Aware of Gail’s escape, she waits patiently for the woman’s arrival, though only receives a note warning to “…live well but remain untouched and alone or everything will remain the same. “ In the guise of “coming to terms” with her friend’s arrest then subsequent escape, Sharon begins a journey across the country ending in Las Vegas. She senses Gail’s stealthy tracking, proven by the various notes left along the way, though never making a physical appearance. Sharon believes Gail has given the pursuit, filling her with a sense of desperate misery. While leaving a restaurant, she accidentally runs into a gorgeous man, but can he fulfill her need for voyeuristic sex? More importantly, can he end her bloody trail of fatal attractions? Only the morning after reveals the answer.
Though a short story published through Mardi Gras Publishing, March Madness pulls the reader quickly into sinister intrigue and psychological suspense. Ms. Blaine doesn’t let go until the climatic end, leaving the reader with an unease that remains long after the book has closed - for this mystery lover it’s a deliciously fascinating feeling. The characters are three dimensional with raw deviant emotion and earthy libidinous sensibilities that heighten both the sinister and sexual tension. Having never read the previous book, March Madness can definitely be read on its own – though the first book is so… alluring.
