Bawdy, bold and garish, Chloe Vincent's shop is the toast of Dauphine street. It is called New Directions, and deals in teas, crystals, incense, hand books on erotic arts, crystal balls, and assorted popular sex toys and amulets. The eclectic shop, handed down from a beloved aunt, offered a variety of dried herbs and aphrodisiacs long claimed to produce enhanced performance for both man and female, and as Marde Gras came around, the shop usually did an especially brisk business. There is only one thing that rains on Chloe's parade, and he comes in the form of a man named Edward Sloan. The man, a behavioral psychologist, is constantly throwing his acidic comments, his supposed research, and his obnoxious opinions all over her. Her newspaper column, Comments from Chloe, has brought some of his most flaming tirades, and he has dragged her name and reputation through the muck. She is a brilliant chemist and herbologist in her own right, and her masters thesis revolves around some personal research on aphrodisiacs she intends to perform if she can find the right candidate. When Mark Sloan walks into New Directions, she feels as though her luck has totally turned for the best. Who else would be the most divine candidate for her research than the son of her hated enemy, nay-sayer, and detractor, and with that all in mind, she sets out to seduce and conquer the enemy. The perfect place to start would be the decadent Ballantine's Marde Gras ball and orgy.
Mark Sloan is aware of the feud between Chloe Vincent and his egotistic father. The gorgeous spitfire is a popular and noted columnist for the Times-Picayune, often offering advice and insight into the efficacy of certain herbs and other things used as aphrodisiacs. Unlike his father, Mark is not so closed minded, and when he first entered the shop, and talked with Chloe, he sensed he was in for a fight. As a behavioral psychologist himself, Mark was somewhat prepared for battle, and as the skirmish is joined, he finds she turns him on more than any woman ever has before. As he decides to take the battle to her, he is well aware the delightful vixen has some other plans, a hidden agenda she is not immediately willing to share. After a delightfully decadent evening spent at the Ballantine's Marde Gras ball, Mark has his mind made up. He is sure it was Chloe dressed as the gypsy to his jester, and he is banking on that knowledge to carry him through his plan. There is an attraction there, and he knows she meets him head to head as an equal, and that is a turn on he can't back away from and wont. Her witty and intelligent banter laced with double entendre and innuendo is not something he can fight. He always did find smart women the ultimate turn-on, and Chloe has savvy and intelligence in spades. Now if only Mark can figure a way to not only get into her bed, but keep her in his life he will be a very happy man.
Shawna Moore lights up the world of romance again with the Gypsy and the Jester and fireworks between Mark Sloan and Chloe Vincent. As egos clash, and sides are taken, Mark and Chloe find themselves fighting on the same side in a bitter battle based on solid research, good chemistry, and a lot of faith in her own abilities. When push comes to shove, Chloe finds Mark staunchly at her side, and as the nights heat up, and the battle rages, she discovers her dreams can come true, and is saddened the situation is not a permanent one. What she doesn't know is Mark has his own agenda, because he has found the woman on his dreams, and if he has his way, Chloe will never leave his sight, his home, or his arms ever again. Chloe is in Mark Sloan's sights, and he is playing her game, but he is playing for keeps. From the posh, decadent balls of Marde Gras New Orleans, to the everyday existence they both thrive on, Mark and Chloe find that not everything is as it seems, and in the end, it just might come down to only love. If you want a really fast paced and sexy read, I think you will enjoy the exploits of Chloe and Mark as they heat up the sheets, and their hearts in pursuit of the perfect aphrodisiac.
