She never knew her father, but in Jill Fuller's unsettled life, the mysterious package she received upped the tension gripping her. On discovering her father was not the loser her mother had claimed, she went through the medals, letters, and the odd contents of a beaded pouch. In her explorations, she discovered she was not truly alone, her father had been with her in a sense, and the urge to move increased dramatically. Now she was settling in the small desert town of Goldfield, seeing places her father saw, going places he went, and learning about the man she never knew as father. Her newfound Native American ancestry is a legacy to be proud of, and one Jill felt to the bottom of her heart and soul. The small house she purchased was rumored to be on ancient burial grounds, but Jill had a tendency to discount those thoughts. She was happy she moved from the Midwest, is happy to have found out about her father, Red Feather, and happy to be meeting those he called his friends. The only unsettling thing is the odd dreams she has been having, and the even stranger one she had last night...
Matt Long Feather is a shaman, a mystic, and the recipient of the accumulated years of Red Feather's magical knowledge and his teachings. He has heard of the new woman in town, and is relieved when he meets her in the diner. He is very aware of her, and on discovering she is Red Feather's daughter, reinforces the warnings given to her by her father. The medicine bag she wears about her neck is for her protection, her father must have warned her, but she did not grow up with the tribe, with their knowledge or belief system, so Matt takes it on himself to be her guardian. He felt the disturbance in the force, the ripples across the natural world caused by evil, and can only surmise the source is his brother Coyote. There has always been something strange about him, and Matt senses his attention to Jill is not benign in the least. He is well aware of his brother's odd ways, of the aura of disquiet and evil around him, and remains on guard. He hopes that Red Feather's medicine bag and his knowledge will be enough to protect Jill from the darkness dwelling in his brother, and in the desert beyond.
Welcome to Savannah Black and her seriously dark but exciting short about danger lurking in the desert. When writer Jill Fuller finds out the truth behind her parentage, and the bitterness her mother felt towards her father, she acts on the urges she has and moves. What is behind these feelings she is having is unclear, but she is driven from all she knows, and into a land she has only dreamt of yet loves. Finding her life's history is important, and discovering the father she never knew priceless. Matt Fuller is an added dimension. He embodies light, peace, and harmony, the exact opposite of the man whom she learns is his brother. It is up to matt to help her understand the dangers of the desert, and the evil that dwells inside Coyote. Dark Desert is a wonderfully short and yet exciting tale of the supernatural. Available soon from Marde Gras Publishing, it is a quick read that satisfies the need for a short trip into the realms of the paranormal. Kudos to Savannah for a job well done. I hope we will be seeing a lot more from her in the days to come.
Yours in good reading,
