When Matt Brennan left the bank, he was decidedly upset, and remained that way because of the decisions he is being forced to make. Three generations of Brennans lived and worked the ranch. Matt is only the latest, and now, due to economic factors beyond his control, he has to so something quickly or lose it all. His banker had given him the options, and none of them sat well with Matt, but he knew deep down he had to “modernize” even if it meant running a “Dude Ranch” or a “Working Ranch” as the business was sometimes called. What this cowboy and gentleman rancher needs, and intends to get is some rest and relaxation at a place where he can give himself time to become accustomed to the devastating changes in his life. The new scheme, no matter what he chooses, will bring. It is not that he is against people, not at all, but the ranch is his life, and he is a true cowboy, and not certain of the way he will feel with a bunch of strangers wandering about his land. Yes, Matt has a lot to think about, and he knows just the place to go, relax, unwind, and become accustomed to the choices, and then hope he makes the right one…

OK, now she has to go in a whole new direction, and damn her ex-boss for his choices, and her ex-fiancé for his duplicity. Heck they should really be one and the same, because the way Laura Kent feels at this particular time, they both deserve the bimbos they got. After all, they threw her over for big boobs, “better sex” and were certainly not looking for competence, love, or brains. What she needed was a few days away before she started job hunting again, and as for a relationship…NO WAY! When John suggested this remote cabin he knew about, and gave her the directions to get there, Laura jumped at the chance to get away. Now she is here, but after the scare she go last night, she can’t stay. John was wrong, and the cabin was not empty. Well, it was when she got there, but she was not expecting the owner to show up and crawl in bed with her. Could she be any more embarrassed? Not really. But there is something about Matt Brennan she can’t get past. The handsome rancher is more than her lonely heart bargained for, and Laura is finding herself in over her head…

Patricia Parkinson, writing as Sage Burnett, has penned a wonderful quick read in Cowboy Blues. From the outset, neither character is in the best frame of mind, both have suffered recent setbacks, and the way they meet is almost traumatic. The attraction that flares up between Matt and Laura is electric, strong, and something they are not really prepared for at the time. Fate, however, is not to be denied, and although Laura runs, she soon finds she cannot hide from the realization of a fling with this particular cowboy is much more for her. The real questions come into play when she has to try to put all aside. For Matt, things are much the same, but as for Laura, denial is all. When the truth get through, he can only go in the hunt, and check with John to track her down. Cowboy Blues brings to life the modern day struggles to keep a real working ranch going, and the all to great reality of the state of the small rancher today. Faced with his problems, Matt can only hope he makes the right choice, and yet when he finds Laura, she just might be part of the antidote for his Cowboy Blues. Look for Cowboy Blues at Mardi Gras Publishing soon, I know you will read this quick and wonderful book it over and over again!
