For Hope Taylor, life as Mike Shannon's mistress was starting out pretty good. She was doing what she loves most, fixing up an old house, and she has a new job in a brand new town. The house she loves, and even though she plans on selling it and moving to another. Her Mustang convertible was an older model, but it was much loved. It was her second love, fast cars, that drew her attention to Dr. Mike Shannon as she decided to play hooky from the job of remodeling, and spend the beautiful day at Tybee Island's beach. His snappy red Corvette seemed to be following her, but when she stopped at a local convenience store to get some beach snacks, Mike really got her attention. It is a liaison of convenience, he has no plans of getting a divorce, and although Hope accepts this, she is not willing to accept his strangle hold on her reins. When her boss invites her to the office costume party, Hope agrees, not counting on the results...
Mike Shannon was on the prowl, but he had a purpose and a direction. He is a successful man on a mission. He doesn't count on his wife's jealousy, her tentacles stretching into every area of his life. He is not prepared for Hope's feelings to be hurt by his callous acts, or his wife's ultimate cruelty, her exposure of her knowledge to Hope. Mike is not ready for the jealousy he feels, or the desolation and the betrayal Hope feels when she tries to reach him after he is involved in an accident, held prisoner in the hospital without any way to contact her. Hope is the first real danger to his marriage, and he is about to realize that in her he may have found a love he can't set aside. It is also the one thing his wife fears most. What Dr. Mike Shannon is about to find out, is Hope Taylor may come to mean a lot more than a simple day at the beach, more than just his mistress, and the consequences to this discovery could be big trouble...
Destiny Blaine pens the continuation of her short delightful story about a young woman who wants no attachments or any permanent relationship, and a man who is need of some real companionship. The circumstances of the Doctor's life are not Hope's concern, but what he offers in a "no strings attached" relationship are a definite possibility for her. She has been burned, and is not looking for permanence. The last thing she expects is to be betrayed, or accused of betrayal. Mike is taken, but as the relationship develops, he actually finds himself in deep water. He knows where Hope stands, he is aware of her past, her fears, and her insecurities. He is also aware he has no permanent claims on her and is NOT prepared to face his own jealousies. Betrayal of a Mistress is a creative and inventive story that develops into something big. Will we ever find out? Well, again I have to tell you I liked this short very much. Betrayal of a Mistress is definitely a "whet your whistle read," and will have you looking for more from Ms Blaine. One can only hope the story will continue...
