For Hope Taylor, life after graduation from the University of Georgia was starting out pretty good. She was going to be starting a new job in three weeks in a brand new town. She has a house she loves, and she hopes it will be one of many. It was an foreclosure sale bargain, so she felt the price she paid for the antebellum mansion was a great deal. Houses and property were her greatest love, one inherited from her late father, himself a real estate investor and developer. She loved restoring them, bringing them back to life and in this case, she hoped the Victory Drive property would turn a tidy profit when she was finished. It was close to the bridge leading to the exclusive Tybee Island properties, and she knew it would draw a good price when the work was completed. Her second best love was fast cars. Her Mustang convertible was an older model, but it was much loved. It was this second that drew her attention as she decided to play hooky from the job of remodeling, and spend the beautiful day at Tybee Island's beach. The snappy red Corvette seemed to be following her, but when she stopped at a local convenience store to get some beach snacks, the driver really got her attention...
Mike Shannon was on the prowl, but he had a purpose and a direction. He is a successful man in a mediocre marriage with a woman who is not available. He has recently moved to Savannah from California to set up a practice, and is in the market for a companion. He loved the ocean, and having just moved to Savannah, he decided to look over the local beaches. The Mustang convertible caught his eye, and the beautiful woman driving it has him intrigued. When she stops at a local convenience store, he moves in, thinking if nothing else, she may give him the best place to access the local beaches. He is curious about the young woman, and decides she might make a pleasing companion for the day. He introduces himself, and finds Hope willing to show him Tybee Island's beach. He follows her to the public access, and asks her if she would spend the day with him. She agrees, and with a pleasant day in the offing, neither one thinks of consequences. What Dr. Mike Shannon is about to find out, is Hope Taylor may come to mean a lot more than a simple day at the beach...
Destiny Blaine pens a short delightful story about a young woman who wants no attachments, and a man who is need of some real companionship. The circumstances of the Doctor's life are not Hope's concern, but what he offers in a "no strings attached" relationship are a definite possibility for her. She has been burned, and is not looking for permanence. Mike is taken, but apparently looking for a mistress. Becoming a Mistress is a creative and inventive story that could be the prelude of something big. Will we ever find out? Well I have to tell you I liked this short very much. Becoming a Mistress is definitely a "whet your whistle read," and will have you looking for more from Ms Blaine.
