That description fits Gina to a "T" and it is evident in the party she is giving at halloween. Of coursse, she has probably invited someone for Claire, the family ideal of the "perftct man" for her. Boring, totally and irrevocably BORING! Now that one in the corner, the one who is suddenly at her side and offering her a drink is more to her taste. Tall, dark, and dangerous is what Claire craves, and yet she can't bring herself tosay yes to what she really wants. She wants the adventure, wants the illusion of dangerous male, dominant and demanding, and the one she has just been introduced is definitely NOT that at all. Mr. Dangerous has disappeared, and sho shall she, Claire can't take anymore of this silly and demeaning matchmaking. Why can't they accept she wants something different, why must they all be prudes and so very narrow of mind? Doen'st anyone in her family think "naughty" or even a bit adventureously?
His is entranced, that is the best way to think of her at this point. She draws him, and David wants to know who she is, where she lives, and everything about her. The best way, since she refused his offer of a drink, is to find the hostess, and ask. As Gina is an acquaintance, and he knows she probably knows almost everyone she invited, he needs to find her and ask about the eye-catching beauty he wants and is interested in getting to know a whole lot better. It takes a while, but he manages to track her down, and finds out the woman, Claire is indeed known to Gina because Claire is her sister. This fascinates David because Gina appears so very different from Claire. Gina appears to be too "uptight" and does not have that alluring aura of adventurousness about her and Claire does. It is almost like the sisters are mirror opposites, and David wants to find out exactly how different they are for certain. He is equipped with all he needs for a little "Trick or Treating," and he really hopes Claire will not say no. But since she left, he will have to track her down, so he'd better get busy...
A Slave Of My Own Desire is a "he said, she said" written in first person. For me, that is such a downer, because the storyline has such promisne. The premise is intriguing, and for those who can tolerate first person, it is filled with his and her POV of the encounter. Rather than developing a full fledged plot, the author, Eve Summers, seems to have taken the encounter and only looked at it from the one night perspective. I wanted to like this, because Eve writes a great story, but it lacked depth. For me, that is the death of a first person read anyway, so in that I was not greatly disappointed, but the possibilities lost in the process cause me to grieve. For those who like first person, however, this is a story that will leave you wanting more, and for that alone it can be recommended. YOu know where you stand with David and Claire, the characters are strong in their own right, and do draw the reader's inerest. Eve's characters are easy to read, and do have some depth.
