It has often been said there is a kernel of truth in every myth or legend, and to tell the truth, Molly knows better than most exactly how that works. On the fairy tales were not any different, it is just that they made innocuous stories for kids. Well, the details had to be changed in most cases, but the story remained the same. Personal experience, however, had taught Molly differently, and sharing the tale of Hansel and Gretel was something that never failed. The newest wrinkle, in an age where everything went faster, was a writing group, and there were many opportunities for ads, interest, and choice. When Deena and Derek show up on Molly's doorstep, there is much to be said, and much to be discovered. For Molly, the story is not so much about the so-called "Wicked Witch" as it is about the young couple themselves. The story is not about children, as she was quick to tell the pair, but is about the strengths and desires each had within, and the magic they could inspire.
As for Derek, he was totally engrossed in the story, and he understood the places the characters were coming from. He had seen much in his life, and as a cop, this story had similarities to situations he had already encountered. He was looking for a quick lay on this day, however, and for him, the time spent with Deena was quickly being branded a waste. She was a tease, a flirt, and she was not all that she built in her mind, at least not to Derek. Molly on the other hand, was a completely different set of possibilities. For Derek, the story she told was erotic, arousing, and hard on a man who had been unmercifully teased for so long. In his mind, Derek knew someday he would meet the one woman who was special to him, and he was very certain it was NOT Deena, no matter what she thought of herself.
Deena was only in the relationship for one thing, herself, and is miffed that Derek has left her flat. No see you later, no offer of dinner, nothing. She cared nothing for Derek, or his wants, needs, or the possibilities together, but that is neither here nor there. She is vain, crude, self-centered, and even worse for Derek, a badge bunny with her mind on marriage, to him if at all possible. It was always her sole goal in life to be a "Mrs. Officer..." and really the last name didn't matter, as long as he was a cop, and as long as he could be foisted off on another woman AFTER the marriage. The ruse that she is an author and loves writing was just that, a ruse to try to further her plans to snare Derek into the ever-important proposal of marriage. She had no more interest or talent than the cat that watched her so carefully as the woman told her preposterous tale. To Deena, this trip to this "Writing Group" was a colossal waste of time, and she couldn't wait to leave. Now, she was sorry they had.
Melvin was not impressed with the woman accompanying the tall handsome man who entered the house. She might do for a quick lay, but she was not anything like Gretel, or any of the other women he had seen and had experienced in his very long life. But when it came right down to it, he was a big old tomcat, and enjoyed his freedom. He didn’t think he was one to truly settle down, but then maybe the right woman had just not come along. His life did have its quirks, but those were relatively easily dealt with until recently. The world was changing, and it was a far cry from the dark shaded woodland of the Dark Forest. In this day and age, true forests were a rare commodity, and becoming harder to find. So were people who could fill their needs. Ah well, once again, time would tell, and for Melvin, he had a LOT of it to fill, and a LOT of things left to see.
Welcome to the world of Regan Taylor where fairy tales are twisted and yet erotic realities, and where their characters and circumstances can bleed over into modern life. Welcome to the world of Derek Williams, dedicated young cop who really needs to find that someone special, but is willing to take what he can get temporarily in the form of badge bunny and dispatcher Deena Carleton. Even though Derek knows her reputation, he is more than willing to treat Deena with respect, to assist her in the career she professes an interest in, but soon realizes it is all a sham. Not to be outdone, Deena has decided that Derek is the one for her, and if the gossip is correct, she won’t get him by putting out for him, and has not strung him along for more than four months. Now, she is rethinking the error of her ways, and yet in the riveting tale told by her hostess, she is hoping to find a clue on how to snare Derek.
Things are not always what they seem, and in The True Story of the Wicked Witch, Regan Taylor takes us into the heart of the Hansel and Gretel fairy tale from the Witch’s perspective, and that of her shape-shifting cat. As with all revised tales, one looks at the story in an entirely new light, and this particular light shows us just how wrong the teller of the original tale was in his assumptions. Regan’s story is rich with imagination, erotic teasing, and in total, a most delightful read. Once again, Regan has managed to titillate our senses, and given us another reason to sing her praises. This book is only the latest in a long like of great stories, so look for The True Story of the Wicked Witch from Aspen Mountain Press, and enjoy the ride!
