David Mallory is a RAF pilot along with his friend who has been hit in battle, and their smoking wreck of an aircraft is descending quicker than he can prepare for in time. He has been flying for three years without any trouble, yet here he is now in a spot of bother and his only hope is a lucky rabbit's foot his friend has mounted on the dashboard to give them any hope of a safe landing. While gunfire still rages outside, they do land using their parachutes, knowing they are not inconspicuous to their enemy.

David acts as the cheery type who, even when they are in peril sees the funny side of things and tries to make Kent feel a lot better than he does as it’s as much about keeping his co-pilot's spirits up as his own. He has a secret he keeps inside that he has a wife at home, and falls in love with Kent, even though he knows deep down he loves her too. He has to come to a decision about who he wants to be with eventually, but is it as easy as that?

Kent Easton has been David's co pilot for some time now and when he sprains his ankle after his landing, he notices David's caring side come out of him. He also finds out they have a lot in common when they have plenty of time to talk about their lives away from the war. He has been indispensable at David’s side, and he is a reliable person to have around even in a crisis – he trusts him completely and will go on trusting him to a point.

Thinking about the time they spent together for those long hours, Kent finds out more of David and his likes, dislikes and more than anything else what makes him love another man like him. He seems an enigma at first, but as with anything else, he finds he does love him even if he is a married man. He realises David has to sort out his life, or risk hurting those he loves most.

The Wayward Wind by Iona Blair is a powerful story of two men's struggles with life in the midst of war against the Nazis. Rain pours down on them, but they strive to survive against all odds remaining hidden away from the enemy. What happens in this is unexpected even for that time as the two manage to forge a sexual relationship together, one they might regret if it wasn't for David's ongoing desire of Kent - his only problem is he is attached with a wife at home who is worried about his wellbeing, unaware of his liaison with Kent.

Just reading Iona Blair's story makes one feel for the couple of characters and their inner struggles. The Wayward Wind by Iona Blair is available from Carnal Passions and is worth the reading time. I heartily recommend this novel to those who enjoy gay short novels with a satisfying couple of characters in them. This is one short you won’t want to miss.

Have enjoyable reading,
Sandra
