She really hated this whole dating fiasco. She was not cut out for this, and even though pack law demanded she make herself available to the single males, that didn't mean she like it or the attention. She was strongly independent, and had to fight to deny her wolf. Now she has been successful, and the days of the courting ritual brought her nothing but disgust, and a longing to be anything but a were. She indulged her human half, and stridently denied her birthright. Sabine swore she would have no mate, that no man would dominate or rule her. She wanted to be courted, loved for who she was, not what she was, and not what she could do for the right male. Most of the flowers and gifts she received during the time of her heat were from single males hoping to snare her, and through her, an in to her father and his power. Well, she didn't want a male who would know-tow to her father, or who wanted to use her as a stepping stone to the power of pack leadership. If she was going to look for a mate, she wanted a man who cared for her, not what she could do for him physically or politically. Oh she knew the rules, but it doesn't mean she has to like them. It should be enough that she follows the law, but she breathed a sigh of relief each time her heat passed and no mate claimed her.
There was something different this time, something she found increasingly disturbing. The dreams she had only occasionally before, the darkly erotic lover causing her body to throb unmercifully, returned with a vengeance, and occurred almost every night. There was a primal longing to the dreams, a promise of more to come, but she needs to keep her balance and not give in to the fantasy. She cannot afford to let a dream lover lead her astray, or make her think she needs what any male has to offer. She refuses to fall for the tricks of the males. Her sister, Vivian, can't understand Sabine's refusal and reluctance to mate. Vivian has often said she can't wait for her first heat, and the attention from the men. Sabine has told her repeatedly it gets old, and although it has for her, each female reacts differently. Of course, Sabine and Vivian are living outside the pack, protected by their status, but it is a privilege to live in freedom outside the pack compound. That being said, Sabine realizes the unrealistic nature of her dreams, but still harbors hope for one who will love only her, not be forced by nature to just accept her as mate, but truly love her.
Roman Silva needs a mate. He knows she is out there somewhere, and he is determined to find her. He is driven by more than just the urge to mate. He needs to find her, the only mate for him, his other half, the completion of his body and soul. Periodically he sensed her, and there is no denying the woman in his dreams is out there somewhere, and she belongs to him. He is the total package in a male were, overwhelmingly alpha, strong, dominant, assured, and ready to mate. He has been aware of the feelings for quite a while, and the mental mating bond with her has been slowly developing over the past few cycles. He senses her even now, and when his cousin John shows up at O'Malley's, Roman finds himself wanting to tear him limb from limb. The woman on his arm is Roman's mate, and the fact she can't sense him has him puzzled. After warning his cousin off, he decides to find out as much as he can about his mate. If he is going to get his new pack established, he must have an alpha female, and now more than ever it is important that he claim her and do so quickly.
He is an outcast, but then it was not his choice, but the choice of the bitch who birthed him and his twin brother Remy. The never knew who their father was, and still don't, but for the kindness of their foster Faust, they would have neither names or even be alive. So much for motherly love. In spite of their ostracism from the pack into which they were born, both Roman and Remy have survived, and with Faust's help, are both rich and successful. They are also determined and strong fighters, for whom even their maternal grandparent and his pack feel their share of fear. The leader of the Alban Pack, their grandfather Numan Silva, thought he could push the brothers into self-destruction, destroying themselves or at least each other, but Roman played the game and won, while Remy walked away. The twins are close, even as alphas, and so they helped the old man gain the leadership pf the pack, but would go no further. Roman knows his half brother Anthony fears and hates them, and he also knows he will go to almost any lengths to try and destroy all that he and Remy have built. Roman fully understands the need for him, Remy, and the other males of his new pack to find mates. The presence of mated females cements their status as a pack, and not just a loose congregation of outcast males, and will give their new pack status on the Council. There is one thing which has him stymied... Roman is not expecting his mate's reluctance.
Jayelle Drewry has created a world of werewolves, complete with pack laws, renegades, outcasts, and the women who love them. The book, The Other Half, is a wonderful rendition of two lovers, one who is strong and determined to have his way, and his lady who is just as determined to ignore her wolf and be human. With Vivian, Sabine's sister to help him in his quest, Roman learns what Sabine wants, and does his best to give it to her, and court her in the way she most desires. When she still refuses him and his advances, he decides he must take other measures, and do things his way. Sabine is not ready to recognise that she has been overly indulged, spoiled beyond redemption, and totally in love with an idea that is defintiely not conducive to her well-being. As Roman declares his intentions to win her at all costs, she runs and hides in her father's compound. Little does she know about Roman's determination, or of the desires of her own heart. It will take everything Roman has to win her and her fickle heart, and then she is afraid it will not be the kind of love she wishes for and longs to have happen for herself.
The Other Half is a book filled with the erotic paranormal promise readers of this genre look for, and Ms Drewry has given us a delightful read. Within the pages you find the dark and erotically handsome werewolf male who will do anything to win his hearts desire to his bed. Although strong in her own way, his mate must first and foremost realize that the physical compatibility is only the first and most necessary step for finding what she truly wants. There are mates who have been and remained strangers, but they are a rarity. No one can tell Sabine about the mating between weres, for it is different for each set of mates. Only the actual experience of finding The Other Half can shake the strange and wrong-headed notions from Sabine's mind. The question is, will Roman be able to win the battle between them and bring Sabine to heel, or will Sabine be the victor, and lead Roman on an eternal dance of frustration and unquenched desire. If you want to find out the answers to these and the other questions arising between this pair, I suggest you pick up a copy of The Other Half at Liquid Silver Books, and revel in the vibrant and titillating story of Sabine Tate, and her mate, Roman Silva.
Yours in good reading,
