It is while in Miami and on a routine sting operation that Connor is wounded. His thoughts immediately focus on the leggy blonde that rocked his world. After two months of rehabilitation and much needed rest, he returns to Jamaica to just get away. It troubles him that it seemed his cover was blown and that he was put on medical leave. All he while he can't seem to get his island lover out of his thoughts. He is informed by his friend and he resort owner Alex, that the female in question has been calling for him. He is more than anxious to get a hold of her and rushes back to the states. Samantha is the first Woman to ever occupy his mind past a day. Upon arriving at her home he sees her in the process of handling a rowdy date. She doesn’t appear to need his help and so he waits. Connor is once again enraptured when he finally shows himself to Sam. But it's not to be the welcome he has expected. In fact, tough DEA agent Connor O'Reily is in for the surprise of his life.
Samantha Murphy makes a living as an editor. As a self employed business owner she likes the fact that she is her own boss. Even though editing manuscripts of "want to be" writers who are also college students is tedious, she prefers it to teaching classes. As an ex Public High School English teacher she makes more money now and has freedoms she didn't have before. such as going to Jamaica to get away from the horrible weather New England has been having. Samantha's memories of Jamaica are filled with desirous thoughts about man with cobalt blue eyes and a scrumptious physique. Unfortunately good looking men like Connor are a rarity for her. So Sam enjoyed her week in the sun with her gorgeous partner. Her last night at the resort is forever ingrained within her mind. She finds herself sighing as she remember the way her body felt beneath Connors seductive caresses.
Things would go much smoother for Sam if she didn't feel so sick all the time. Writing it off as the flu she tries to go about her business and attend her karate classes. Her favorite pastime for relieving stress. She is sent home by her instructor Dave as it is clear she is really not doing well. She promises him that she would go and see her best friend and karate partner Macayla Sullivan who is also a doctor. hen she is informed of her mysterious ailment an it's source, Sam is stunned. There is no way one night of safe sex could leave her pregnant. Yet, she can't deny the powerful ways that they made love or the secret joy she feels at having a part of Connor within her. Sam makes the decision to try and contact him. She has a friend of her hack into his files and discovers that Connor doesn't even exist. With no hope in sight she calls the resort in Jamaica and leaves a message with Alex. When Connor finally appears Sam literally swoons at his feet. She isn't prepared for the feelings that engulf her so quickly. She is even less prepared for Connor's anger.
When the two actually talk they make their fears known. Connor isn't ready to be a father and Sam who is just as surprised has learned to accept it. The two struggle to overcome hurdles and soon develop a key connection that is their unborn baby. In the foreground of their slowly budding romance is danger. Someone wants Connor dead and will go through any lengths to achieve that end. After a failed hit and run attempt on Sam's life the two escape to a safe house and the real adventure begins. As Connor and Sam find themselves battling unsavory characters the two fall headlong into a passionately erotic love affair. Jared Romero, Connor's friend and Macayla Sullivan find themselves embroiled in a pot so devious as to leave them rushing to help. Just who is out to take Connor and Sam's life? What exactly does Connor have that seems to be an unknown assailants main goal?
SURPRISE was a hit and a totally hot and engrossing read. All the characters had actual personality's that were real and identifiable with. There were many hilarious moments as well as scenes that positively sizzled. An added bonus is the mystery that is sure to lave you guessing as to the who and why. As Connor and Sam race across the country the two have to learn to make compromises along the way. Can Connor adjust to his impending fatherhood? Will Sam be able to live a life that is always on the run? As much as I’d like to, I'm not telling. You will just have to get a copy and find out. I recommend this read and can only fervently await the reading of it's sequel, TAKE YOUR MEDICINE. In which the ultra hot yet extremely secretive Jared can get his and Macayla’s explosively hot story told. Never have I been so enthralled by secondary characters such as these two.
