Hafwyen of the Flowers knows what it means to be bogged down by responsibilities. She is the heir to the royal throne of Yadderwal. Wyen’s emotions are constantly in turmoil due to hearing daily of her people’s aches and pains. She escapes as often as she can into the Dream World with the help of her own version of the sacred Cappadesteeni sleeping draught that her family has used for years. The Dream World is an altered realm of understanding that enables Wyen to find the solitude and happiness that she has never been able to find in her world. In this altered realm, Wyen is able to control her thoughts and actions and can do as she wishes and go anywhere she wants. She is able to see clearly and find the strength to endure the responsibility that goes along with her royal position.

Over the years, Wyen has developed a friendship with her companion in the Dream World. He has always been there when she needs him and he makes her feel save and protected when he is near. Wyen’s life has always revolved around knowledge and discipline. She knows that with knowledge comes the control in her life that she so desperately needs. The Dream World enables her to find the controlled solitude that she cannot find in the roomy castle. Wyen’s companion has been with her since she first ventured into the Dream World. On her most recent trip in to the Dream World, she finds chaos and confusion when she cannot locate her companion. The Myst in the Dream World conceals his location and she is desperate in her search for him. Wyen hears his spirit calling out to her, but is unable to locate him. When she if finally able to focus and locates him, the message that he gives her is unlike any that she has ever received from him before. He informs her that time is growing short and that she must believe. The Myst takes him away before Wyen can learn what she has to believe.

Yestin is the odd ball in his family. He follows the beat of his own drummer. His weapons in this world are good will and cheer. Happiness is what he knows. While he is the oldest son of the leader of Uavonia, he will not inherit the title of Marquis De LaRounge because of an indiscretion his mother indulged in during her youth. His brother, Fionn, is next in line since he is the eldest blood relative of his father, which is a requirement for succession. Yestin’s innate abilities are rare gifts, even among his own people. His mother, the priestess of Daire, had passed on her skills to him and the power flows through him, enabling him to perform many wonderful feats.

Yestin has been secretly sharing Wyen’s Dream World since the beginning. He is so powerful that he does not require the use of a sleeping draught to answer Wyen’s call once she has entered the Dream World. Over the years, in the Dream World, Yestin nurtured his friendship with Wyen. Hoping against hope that she can one day be his outside of the Dream World. Some answers are not allowed in the Dream World and Wyen must be able to find the path on her own and make her way to her soul mate. Yestin must protect Wyen from her one time friend and advisor, Gerardio, and his powerful talents that he uses for evil.

In Sudden Fall by Kally Jo Surbeck, Wyen and Yestin must learn that trust goes both ways. To overcome the obstacles in their path, they are required to believe in the other and trust their knowledge. Wyen uses the Dream World as an escape from the daily drudge of her life. As the High Princess of Yadderwal, Wyen is required to find her soul mate to ensure the safety and continuation of her line. Years before, her family was cursed and the fate of their people was tied to the ability of the heir to find the one true love of their life. If the heir does not find their soul mate, then the Fall of Yadderwal begins. When Wyen’s parents are poisoned, they must punish the one responsible for the act of treason. The land begins to die and fall into a state of decay. The warmth of the sun seeps out of the land, leaving behind only bitter cold and emptiness. Wyen must find her soul mate at any cost to save her beloved land and people.

Sudden Fall pulls the reader into an enchanting world where the fate of a nation lays in the hands of soul mates that must find each other and overcome the evil machinations of their enemy. I enjoyed the interaction between the characters and the unique connection that Wyen and Yestin shared, even over a great distance. The struggles and obstacles that they must overcome remind the reader that without strife, there is no real appreciation for the happiness that you experience in life. I found myself not wanting to put the book down because there is never a dull moment in it. I just had to know what was going to happen next and see if Wyen and Yestin would be able to stop the Fall of Yadderwal. Pick up a copy of Sudden Fall by Kally Jo Surbeck from Triskelion Publishing to find out if Wyen and Yestin trust each other enough to prevent the fall of a great people.

Yours Sincerely,

Annmarie
