Spencer drives home from work one night to see a shadowy form come into the road, it's a werewolf and immediately jumps at him and bites him, but he doesn't do just that - he makes love to him as well! After his ordeal, Spencer gets back into his car, and finds a note on the passenger seat waiting for him - it's a note from Diego, the werewolf who bit him, and instead of a threat, he tells him about why he bit him, and more importantly that he is a werewolf now and gives him details of how to control his desperate yearnings when he is about to change at the next full moon.

Spencer is the sort of character who has been given enough time to come up with a plan for how he wants to live his life. Before Diego came along, he had a relatively uninteresting life led among normal, everyday people, but now he is among his own small werewolf pack of highly sexed men he has to try and keep them happy rather than keep them in check as the leader of a werewolf pack would do. Spencer also has to contend with what would happen if the leader of the rival pack came looking for them, angry that they didn’t want to join him – there are a lot of possibilities in this novel, and not all of them are good for the safety of Spencer’s pack. Readers will get the idea that he doesn’t like others to dominate them or make the decisions for their pack, so if they decide to leave where they have been for a while, then they are unlikely to leave a trail behind. For Spencer there is also the matter of making sure there are no other predators around once they get settled in another area.

Spencer enjoys his life with Ryder after he made him a werewolf, and Luc, who joins his pack become the happiest around as they can all enjoy sex and having a stable relationship in turn. Spencer’s problem comes when an alpha male of a nearby wolf pack does see the three men as a threat and gives him a choice - they are to join his own pack and be ruled by him alone, or die. As if this isn’t bad enough news, Luc is also unhappy with his lot, but he isn’t telling anyone what is wrong. Although Spencer is interested in the other men’s lives, he doesn’t tell anyone about what really happened when he was a young man, not when he thinks their happy life together could be jeopardised. Spencer is the type who likes to have an easy life, without problems or disputes of any kind – when anything wrong happens; he has a tendency to want to walk away from the problem, but since he has been with the other guys, he has learned to open up more and talk of his concerns rather than keep all of them in. What is funny about him in this whole book is that Max had considered him the pack leader if he had joined his pack, and even though he is in their circle, the other guys don’t notice his dominance as he isn’t one to show of this side of his character. He would much rather them be happy than controlled, which is the whole point of their happiness so far.

Ryder Jenkins lays injured at the side of the road, and Spencer helps him out. Ryder has an abusive boyfriend who let him stay at his place due to his parents throwing him out on the street for coming out. Since then he has crashed at his place, but for a price - he has been whoring him out to get money and to cap it all got him hooked on meth. Ryder is taken back to Spencer's place, and gets him fit and well again and off the drugs. He doesn't need to even think about making him one of his kind and with two wolves on the prowl there is more fun to be had, but three might have been a crowd if they hadn't found someone else being beaten up and saved him from a fate worse than death – Luc, another handsome male who finds himself in an unfortunate situation who benefits from being a three man harem, all wolves, all contented until later.

Ryder loves being with the other two, and has an added interest in being Spencer’s lover. Unfortunately the both of them are leaving Luc out in their lovemaking, which later starts to cause problems, but it’s nothing that can’t be sorted. If Ryder and Spencer both concentrate on including Luc in their sessions properly then everything will work out for all concerned. His life might have been different before, but Ryder has a new and interesting life to enjoy with Spencer and his other harem of handsome, young men who are more than willing to accept him into their fold. Combined, the men are an amazing group of strong werewolves, and also have a great libido Spencer can't control at times. I liked the fact that there is a needy and overly emotional one in the pack as the emotion is realistic enough to move the story along.

Spencer’s Secret by Joyee Flynn is one of those gay paranormal novels that you just can't put down once you turn the page. It grips the reader from the moment they start to read the first page because she gets straight to the meaning of the story with an action packed description of the scene where Spencer first encounters the werewolf. I found it an amazing journey into the mind of a young man who had all the opportunities of his life laid out for him, and how he took them based on a short note left by an anonymous werewolf who changed him. I thought he was changed for the better, but others will have a different take on what occurred after Spencer was bitten, due to Max, the alpha male of a remote wolf pack’s interference with the three of them existing, he makes it all complicated and possibly dangerous for them to live in the same location as them.

In Spencer’s Secret by Joyee Flynn three men have to find out what they really want from their incredible new lives together in order to make it work, and life within a rigid wolf pack might not be the answer they were looking for. Both Spencer and Ryder get on well enough, but Luc acts as the destructive part of the threesome who feels left out of their relationship unless sex is involved, in which case, he thinks he is the toy they can use. Along with thoughts of relocation from the three of them, there is also make up sex to enjoy once you decide to pick up a copy of Spencer’s Secret by Joyee Flynn – you won’t be disappointed as there is a lot to get interested in and the back story of all three characters to read about – plus a shocking truth from Spencer, who at the moment is keeping tight-lipped. Spencer’s Secret by Joyee Flynn captures the sensuality, and sexuality of the men involved in the story and plunges the reader right into the drama of their lives together – it is deep, witty and cleverly devised.

Have enjoyable full-moon reading,
Sandra!
