She is tough, strong, dedicated to protecting the power of Aora, and its rightful leader, the true Emperor or Empress. But the Empress is dead, and the new leader, the new holder of the “People’s Power” is not ready yet. The Guardians must maintain control until the Chosen One is ready and able to take the throne. Unfortunately, Tasita is one of the last six remaining Guardians, she is also on the run. Her home planet is not safe, it is not time for the power to be transferred, and the Usurper is hunting them, trying to destroy them. It is their job, their task to keep the power from the leader of the coup. Those who manipulated the Empress’ weakness to grab the throne have forgotten the lessons of the past, the legends and the history of the things that went before. Tasi hasn’t, and she knows it is up to the Guardians to protect the people, and the ascension of the new and rightful ruler. She has had little contact with the outside world, but she and her six comrades have had to leave their home world in order to protect their precious cargo. There are only three of them left, and this mission to the settlement seems to have been ill-advised. Now Acantha lay dying on the floor of a bathroom in a seedy tavern room. Not a very dignified ending for a Guardian, but what can they expect when they are being hunted like criminals.

She was aware of the Daamen Traders who have always plied the vastness of space, but until she ran into Heddam in this above-stairs bedroom, she had never met one, nor had she run into the stubbornness inherent in their natures. He offers her protection, and yet Tasi can’t trust him to protect her. Even if he could, she can ill afford to allow him into her life, her world, and she most definitely can allow him to get in the way of her destiny. Now it is just her and Balfour, and he must be returned to Aora at the appropriate time. She knows the time is soon, but she needs to bet back to him, and with Acantha gone, it is imperative they remain together. Balfour holds the key to the ascension of the Chosen One, the one who will be the new leader of Aora. It is her job to try to protect him, and to see they both return to Aora when the time is right. But Heddam and the Daamen Traders can’t know the secrets, can’t return with her to Aora so his offer of protection is one she can’t take advantage of now, or ever...

There is nowhere the Daamen are not welcomed, except Aora. Well, there maybe a few taverns where they were goaded into fights, which the huge lusty traders greatly enjoyed. Even so, they have always been welcomed back, or begged to return because they very generously spent their dinos wherever they trade. Merchants are willing to forgive what sins they appear to commit to gain access to the goods the Daamen provide, and the money they spend. If the truth were to be told, however, Aora did not welcome any outsiders. It is a closed planet, and because of that, Heddam and his shipmates had no idea with whom they were dealing. Oh, Heddam knew the little lass wasn’t telling him the truth, only a partial one maybe, but he was smitten with her. He had to admire her courage from the very beginning when he saw her kneeling beside her dying friend on the floor of the bathroom. He was randy, ready for some action. Heddam never expected to find a strange, but feisty little lass in his tavern wench’s room, nor did he expect to find her to be in big trouble. He didn’t think. He only knew he had to protect her from whatever, and/or whoever was hunting her. About that, Heddam had no misconceptions.

It is kind of hard to miss danger when uniformed strangers are going room to room, searching for something, or someone, but only the foolish would interrupt a Daamen Trader at play. This was only one of many hints Heddam had about the problems facing the little wench he decided to protect. She was a pretty thing, with a large topaz coloured gem in her forehead. He had no sense of where she came from, or who she was at first, but as more facts became known, and he found out what she had been through, his protectiveness roared to the fore. It was fighting himself that proved to be the hardest. But as he found Tasita in trouble again, then again, he knew he was doomed. How can a man fight it when fate keeps shoving the same obstinate little wench in his face over and over? How can a man fail to protect such a valiant little creature? It was a similar outlook that brought them to the defense of the Reeka Warriors, when they were being hunted, and Heddam felt the same compulsion when faced by his own game fighter. Heddam wanted some answers, and if he couldn’t get them from Sabra or Des, then maybe Elyse would have them. At any rate, he wanted to get to the bottom of this and eliminate the threat to his very own lass. What was going on, who exactly was hunting her, and why???

Angela Verdenius has brought her readers another E-Ticket ride, one filled with all the excitement, treachery, and love you could ask for in one of her books. Please keep your hands inside the car, fasten seatbelts and hold on tight because once you take off, you will not want to go back to Earth. Heddam has fallen prey to the non-wiles of a savvy and dedicated Guardian of Aora. She is hunted by the leader of the coup who assassinated the Empress before she could pass on her power to the next Chosen One. But as determined as Tasi is to leave Heddam and the Daamen behind, Heddam is that much more determined not to let his little lass get away. He is, as are all Daamen, true to his mate, and although he struggles against his fate, he soon realizes that Tasi is the only one for him, the only mate his heart and soul will accept. Heddam can’t let her face the dangers alone, especially when it looms so near, and when the other Guardian has fallen. Even though she fights him, Heddam knows they will be stronger together, and together, they are the only hope for Aora. Soul of a Guardian is Tasita's story, the story of Aora, its people, and the power that guides and guards them. Soul of a Guardian is the newest addition to Angela’s Heart and Soul series.

The Soul of a Guardian is back to the darkness, yet still holds the reader captive with the magic between Heddam and Tasita that is not lost in the telling. So often the spark can be lost in the futuristic romances that take themselves too seriously. Angela constantly keep the reader on his/’her toes, however, with the twists and turns of plot, the quirks and idiosyncrasies of character, and the excitement of the current chase. Once again, I found Soul of a Guardian to be an exceptional read, and one that I know I will go back to again and again. Angela has brought yet another Daaman Trader to his knees, but the girl, the people, and the situations will still rivet the attention. So come along with Heddam as he fights his destiny, and with Tasita as she fights to fulfill hers. Angela’s writing will sweep you along with the action, keep you sighing at their stubbornness, and clapping at their victories. Soul of a Guardian is the book for you if you enjoy danger, and a light hearted but loyal group of very macho men, and strong heroines with your futuristic romances. Releasing in May by Wings ePress, it is must buy, and a story you will not forget. It is definitely another in Angela's line of fine romances that Wings has to offer. Watch for it.

Yours in good reading,
Rose!
