Today SIS Officer Caroline Palmer’s life will change irrevocably, and she may not be prepared for the consequences. Of all the things in the world Caroline worked for, and desired, two things were uppermost on her very short list. One was making it into Pasadena Homicide, and the other was getting Detective Michael McGraw to notice her. After all of that, nothing else really mattered in reaching her goals and aspirations. Homicide is her ultimate dream, yet her time in Special Investigations has been good. Not great, understand, but good. She has acquired street smarts on the vice squad, and a working knowledge of areas of society she would heretofore never have thought about. She has gained knowledge important to survival on the force, to her career, and to advancement within the ranks, and has no doubt when the time comes, she will be able to put it to good use. She is smart, dedicated, and she is undeniably good at her job, one of the best. Caroline also inspires trust, and protective instincts in those she works with as well as respects. She doesn’t hide her femininity in the ways of most of the women on the force, but accepts it, demands the regard as her due, and in doing so, has earned the status of equal among her peers and associates in the SIS.

All of this is good but Caroline does understand one sad fact. To achieve her goal of working homicide detail, she would have to forfeit the dream of having Detective McGraw in her life in any other way. Well, this is almost a moot point anyway, since the detective is not a player. The man is cold, and has earned himself the nickname of Iceman. Caroline found this out when, in her first days, her attraction to him led her into making the mistake he was approachable. From the first rebuff on, she learned her dreams of working in the Homicide Division excluded any hopes of Michael McGraw except on a very professional basis. His approach and the singling out of Caroline to work on a series of horrible murders called the “Teddie Murders” makes her shake. Why her? What did he want? These questions are answered in part by the briefing he takes her to, they need her to go undercover to help him. Bondage, domination, and submission gives her the chills. It seems, however, to be a clue, a hidden commonality. But there is something in this about Mick. The man stirs her to the bone, soul deep, It is something in his eyes sparking the long withheld desire deep in her heart and mind. Something calls to her, something primal, something feral, and seems to be aggressively dominant, so very male. God how the man turns her on.

Homicide Detective Michael McGraw, known to his associates as “Mick,” is a master of control. It is a cornerstone of his life, and a necessity. He must maintain it at all costs, that is an absolute, an imperative to him. Tall, strong, well built, and sensual, he exudes intelligence and sexual attraction along with his detached cool and aloof demeanor. One look from his ice blue eyes and a person feels frozen to the bone. His knowledge, skill, determination and tenacity on the job is legendary, his ability to crack a case, track a perp, and break women’s hearts all go together with his seemingly super human control to earn him his other nickname, The Iceman. Yeah, the reputation was earned, but it was also a protection from others, from hurt, and from what he feared he could become. It was the culmination of the past, of the hard work and discipline he practiced throughout his life. It has to be maintained, he knew well, because he had let temper go before, and the slip nearly cost him his career. It would NOT happen again. He knew what was said behind his back, and Mick couldn’t care less. The fools didn’t know what could happen if he ever let go, if he ever lightened up.

He is the son of a murderer. The possibility he could end up as his father had, in jail for murder because he had no control, is very real to Mick. Oh yes, he had seen it all. Other kids were enjoying school, living their little lives well-loved and secure, but ten year old Mick was testifying at a trial, and was ultimately responsible in putting his father away for murdering his mother, and her lover. No, she could not get far enough away, and she died. Mick didn’t want to think himself capable of such killing, but it was a fear he lived with, a rage he bottled up from his childhood helplessness. He maintained iron control, oozed menace, and danger. Loss of his willpower was the worst danger, to those around him and to himself. He has taken measures to channel his impulses, his rage, and his issues. He has found relief from his daily life’s pressures by learning the art of discipline, and from activities to burn off excess and pent up energy. He ran, using daily runs to check out stakeouts, and work out most of his frustrations. It was a great way to think, and to work out problems like the one plaguing him for the past year. The problem of how to deal with his almost unmanageable attraction to one tall, sexy SIS Officer. Yep, he has it bad, and he knows just how to purge her from his system, and solve these murders at the same time.

Nikita Black has written yet another special romance in Slave to Love, with a very special hero, and a heroine who can’t help but match him perfectly. Born to love, Detective Michael McGraw and Officer Caroline Palmer suffered through their own fires of awakening, their own brands of mental and physical conditioning which can eventually lead one to danger, and into risk-taking professions. The same drives can also condition a person, and lead them to the edgier side of a physical relationship. Control is the key, the end all and be all in the world of BDSM, a world in which Mick is well versed. In this world he found total acceptance, a whole society in which he can function as a normal member. It is his world of safety where the breach has occurred, and he is driven to put an end to the disruption. It is also in this world where he will discover if his assumptions are true. Caroline Palmer has a beauty and a strength he wants for his very own, and own is the operative word in Mick’s vocabulary.

Slave to Love is an exquisite trip into the back alleys of life, but let us all understand, what some view as tawdry, lewd, dirty, and just plain wrong, others find beautiful and sacred. The world of BDSM is not for the faint of heart or the weak. It is not for the perverse. It is a free and dedicated world in which strength and beauty survive and flourish. It is where trust is given, and rewards are justly won. Control is King and Master here. Trust is his Queen, loving only him and sweetly submissive. Unless they live hand in hand in peace and harmony, the outcome could well be devastating. The situation is not pretty, nor are the circumstances pulling detective and officer together in this place of ultimate desire. Mick finds Caroline’s sparkly wit and sassy nature a turn on but he senses a need in her running soul deep, a need he is determined to show her, one only he can fill. Caroline finds Mick annoying, to say the least. Abrasive, controlling, maddening, and totally sexy also fit the bill, but for her there is something more. The desire to keep him safe, to heal the hurts she senses, to do whatever he tells her, and the heartfelt wish to trust and obey him, to see to his happiness. What Caroline doesn’t understand, is she is a Slave to Love, and it is a fact Mick is only too willing to teach her.
