She’s always known she is different from most people, her nose more sensitive to smells, scents, and odors, and her hearing too, but this was almost too much. The atmosphere of the bar was truly overwhelming and she needed fresh air. Trouble is not what she was looking to find, she is only there to help a co-worker celebrate a twenty-first birthday. Dr. Annabel Calloway never looks for trouble, but when dealing with people and animals she’s had to be prepared because it will find you no matter how careful you are or what you do. It took strength to be a vet, and she was pretty sure she could fight her way out of most situations. If course her unusual strength helped when dealing with animals, but she is not prepared for the attack of the two men in the alley. She is not aware they are not necessarily human, but Anna knows for certain there is something is off about the men. She strongly feels her need to run, and their need to take, stake a claim, to act violently. She wants to avoid rape, if possible escape with out too many injuries, and she is not thrilled to be thought of as an easy conquest. She is not prepared for the throaty voice commanding her to stop struggling, not the voice, the man, nor the effect it has on her.
The last thing Anna wanted was to wake in a stranger’s house, and yet that is just what happened. The nightmare was real. The attack in the alley, the stranger who came to her rescue, the death of an attacker, it happened, was all reality. Now she has no idea where she is, who is around, if she is safe, and whether or not she is a prisoner. All these things weigh heavily on her mind as she searches for meaning. She needs solitude, and when she leaves Kieran Hunt’s house, she is unaware she has triggered a mate hunt in the man who saved her life, and she is the object of that hunt. She will, in the coming days, have to come to grips with what happened, and this she knows. There is no way but to deal with it, but the scientist in her is warring with information she has been given, not only about the man to whom she finds herself drawn, but herself. She has dealt with trauma in animals, now she has to deal with her own. It has been traumatic, yet she is safe, and in spite of everything she knows and is sure about, there is an odd feeling awakening inside. She senses time running out, and she needs answers, and needs them badly before something goes very wrong…
Kieran Hunt had been following Joshua and Ryland for a while, but due to Pack Law, he could do nothing until they made a wrong move. In attacking the woman, they made their first mistake, but until he caught the scent of a female in heat, he hadn’t known just who or what was being attacked. Then they made their second by injuring her and threatening her life, her health, and then him. The woman, however, was acting strangely. She was strong, obviously to Kieran part Wolven, but she was not acting like a female of his species. As her scent drifted around him, he became aware of her particular pull on him, aware of her identity. Kieran didn’t need it mapped out for him, instinct determined his moves, told him to fight for his mate, and that more than anything shocked him. Kieran was not looking for a mate, he had been down that road before and it ended in disaster. He wasn’t worthy of a True Mate, yet he found himself fighting for that very thing, a mate bond.
He has to stay on his toes, he has to fight for her because she doesn’t know what she is yet, and Kieran doesn’t think Dr. Annabelle Calloway would believe him if he told her. He decides a courtship is what is called for, but Anna is trying his patience. He is a patient man, and he learns to respect her skills as a vet, and as a person as he insinuates his life into hers. Things will come to a head, and she has accepted him for what he is, but she is still shaky when it comes to her past. Kieran can’t tell if she knows anything, she refuses to discuss it, claiming she has only memories of her mother, no father, no other family, and for Kieran who knows how the Wolven Packs are structured, is stymied. Why doesn’t Anna know her history, where is her pack, who looks out for her, and a multitude of other questions he really wants and needs the answers to swirl in his head. He needs her to see who she really is, but is not prepared to jump on her fragile self-esteem for his own sake. He can only hope that things will not come to a head before the truth comes out. For the moment, the only thing thundering consistently through is head is possessive. Every time he thinks of Anna, he thinks, “MINE!”
Yes, the blurb received with this book is definitely right. Teresa D'Amario does give us a small town veterinarian with a big time problem, and a huge secret that was kept from Anna as well. Not knowing you are Wolven can lead to big problems, and for you and for those around you, especially when you believe yourself to be infertile, and you are taken by a pair of horny wolves, or captured by one who desires a true mate bond enough to let you go. She is not sure what Kieran really wants, nor is she willing to believe what he is telling her. Oh he has nore than proved the truth about himself, but really, can she really be one of his kind?
SheWolf is a trip into a world where anything is possible, where mates are taken, but True Bonds are rare. With their species being threatened by poutside forces, Anna ns Kieran soon learn that life has given them a purpose, and the love and bond they have is not just an accident. When a series of odd events occur, leaving Kieran in a quandary as to what to do, Anna has to decide if she will step up to the plate or take her toys and go home. The tension is unmistakable, the action exciting, and the book will stay in your mind and on your shelf for a long time to come.
