Title: The Protector's Destiny
Author: Kiera Black

Published in April 2007 by Triskelion Publishing
Genre: Paranormal
ISBN: 1-60186-164-8

Already in decline, werewolves suffer more losses by the vampires who hunt them. The blood drinkers hunger after the werewolf’s powerful blood that enhances their own strength and speed while allowing them to go days without feeding. A lone werewolf fights for survival against the vampires who killed her family, making her an orphan. Another werewolf fights loneliness as his mate constantly remains beyond his reach.

She knows only how to survive on her own, since loosing her family at a young age, and no pack ever came forward to claim her. Elizabeth discovered her skills on her own, aiding her sense of loneliness and isolation. Being self-sufficient has allowed her to fend off becoming a vampire’s slave, more importantly ending her family’s lineage. As a new vampire threatens, she senses another werewolf in the vicinity, comforted by his assurances of aid.

Suffused by the pains of loneliness, Sam searches for lost werewolves. As their numbers decline uniting them under one pack ensures their survival. He takes notice of Elizabeth Winters after reading one of her novels, about werewolves battling vampires. Its authentic werewolf portrayal astounds him, leaving him to believe that she is one, but he must confirm it and meeting her is the only way. Driving towards a cabin hidden in the Adirondack Mountains, Sam feels the pull of his “mate”. He also feels the panic triggered by the vampire stalking her.

Hard driven suspense plunges the reader into the world of werewolves battling vampires. The Protector’s Destiny is jammed with action as the werewolves protect their own while searching for their lost loved ones. However, the vampires’ attacks are becoming more daring and frequent since Elizabeth’s arrival within Sam’s pack. The intrigue escalates as the romance blossoms.

Sam is frustrated, emotionally and sexually, when convincing Elizabeth that she is his mate. His gentle handling and soothing words of comfort do not easily penetrate her sturdy self-reliance. Elizabeth’s independent nature hides a lonely child who grew up uncertain about her werewolf talents, compounded by a world who does not even believe they exist. She holds firmly to self-preservation, and affection is a luxury she never could afford. Sam knows her tragedy, loosing his own family as a teenager. Still, the pack ensured that his werewolf transformation process well guided and secure, while making him feel loved. Elizabeth’s fiery personality is well suited for Sam, a pack leader. Their romance is sweet, as he tenderly calms her insecurities but sparks her libido. Sam and Elizabeth’s whetted mating ritual forms a tighter union, both in and out of the bedroom.

Ms. Black keeps the readers immerse in splendid gripping tensions, revealing the vampires’ treacherous plans as the werewolves uncover deceit from within their own, including secrets that prove how closely tied the vampires are to the werewolves. Readers will delight in meeting plenty of lively and attractive characters that ensure this vigorous series continuance. Published by Triskelion Publishing, The Protector’s Jewel, release date September 2007, precedes The Protector’s Destiny, followed by The Protector’s Keeper with a release date of December 2007. Vampires, werewolves, and romance…a delicious combination.
