Paul’s D’Marco

Title: Paul’s D’Marco
Author: Leiland Dale

Published in 2009 by Silver Publishing
Genre: Crime/Paranormal/Gay
ISBN: 978-0-986981-8-8-3

Life for Matt D’Marco is a bit stressful of late. Not withstanding the pending divorce proceedings, the new promotion from officer to detective further upsets his orderly, tranquil life. In Port Angeles Police Department, a serial child murderer augments the concentrated discord. The promotion was supposed to free up time so Matt can spend more quality moments with his son, Shaun. Still, the elusive murderer dominates not only his physical time but mental state as well – to the point of obsessive. As the death of grade school boys increases, Matt’s frustration mounts too. Short tempered and rude is the welcome received by the Captain’s choice of professional counsel to help Matt solve this case quietly but quickly.

Paul Whittington is a psychologist by profession, but also a proven medium and clairvoyant for the dead. And yes, that includes ‘SEEING dead people’. When his brother-in-law, Captain Steven Bougard asks him to review the serial murderer of three little boys, he can’t refuse. After all they’re children.

Upon arriving in Port Angeles, Paul is greeted by the most breathtaking male specimen he has had the pleasure of encountering in a very…very long time. Adonis is the first word that comes to his mind, while watching Matt load his luggage into the trunk. However, the Detective’s demeanor seems off putting, downright rude even. Yet equal to Matt’s honest, though plainly hostile, displeasure and skepticism towards Paul’s talents; it doesn’t taint that first impression though. No matter how gorgeous the man, they too can be unbearable idiots.

Paul’s D’Marco, by Leiland Dale, is a delightful, interesting story. The characters are real and lively, proven by Matt’s certain, albeit stunned, reaction towards Paul – pure unadulterated lust. He has never felt any attraction towards men before and is rightly confused by it. Then the Police Captain forces Matt to give Paul a place to stay while in town; under the guise of providing protection should he need it. Matt suspects nothing good is going to come out of the arrangement. He is so very much mistaken, as his own partner, Petersen recognizes the obvious attraction between him and Paul.

Paul’s evident attraction is corporeal, even surprising himself with its intensity. However, Matt’s cynicism is a deal breaker for him - too many romances have gone bad over Paul’s quite real and highly skilled talents. Once heavily involved in the case the distraction will tap down his sexual frustration. At least that was his hope. Without this much needed diversion, Paul’s need to be under, over and around Matt overrides all proper reasoning.

Released through Silver Publishing in 2009, Paul’s D’Marco is sure to please readers who love gay romance in its most natural, simplified form. Leiland Dale’s writing is engaging, smoothly drawn by the suspenseful plot and enticing characters, pulling the reader into its fictionalized vortex.

The predatory murderer of innocents leaves behind no physical evidence to which paves the way towards capture. Matt and his partner, Petersen’s annoyance is just, tangible too as another child is killed, all the while they frantically search for a lead. They also share an uncertainty in the psychic brought in after a local newspaper discloses every case detail. Matt, Petersen and Paul must relinquish trite skepticism before another little boy is needlessly murdered. In the meantime a healthy, physical romance between Paul and Matt proves beneficial in releasing all that pent up frustration; nothing like sweaty romp to clear the mind…and body. However, when the murderer strikes in Matt’s own backyard does his narrow mind broaden in regards to Paul’s gifts.
