Attending a London book release, two people discover a love that withstands months of separation while spanning an ocean. First, their personal lives need tidying up in order to reap the rewards gifted by fate. Cannot have this love tainted by past errors and insecurities…this love needs a spotless, forthright beginning.

Angela is thrilled by her first book publication; believing she would be feeble and elderly before witnessing such an event. Spying a handsome Brit adds to her exciting evening, but he disappears before she can get his name. Mingling her way around the room, she comes face-to-face with the very man whose rousing image accompanied her since their eyes first met.

Paul’s wife of several years has left him, yet again. Their meeting happens with an event just like tonight, a book release. Seems life repeats itself as he notices a beautiful woman who stays with him for the remainder of the evening. As those romance novels tout, “Love at first sight. The crowd parted in the large room; suddenly there she stood: the love of his life.” Spurred on solely by intrigue and lust, he follows her out onto the balcony.

Ms. Lindley keeps her readers pleasingly entertained as One Evening in London hands over a charming uncomplicated romance. Having Paul follow her onto the balcony makes Angela’s heart flutter, a clear sign of his interest interested. His honest confession about a rocky marriage and his wife leaving quickly blows any hope of a romantic liaison. Her last boyfriend taught her that much, admitting his marriage only after Angela was emotional involved. Still, she encourages Paul that they can remain friends, although when his affairs are worked out maybe something more could develop between them.

With a true and honest cast, Ms. Lindley builds a fresh though absorbing story. Paul never thought his interest would offend her. Standing there stunned, he quietly listens as Angela heatedly accuses him of looking for a mistress because she is a woman of color. Watching her storm off, he muses about her accusations. Her skin color he found attractive yes, but her whole person appealed to him more. Once back inside, Paul is relieved when she apologizes for her outburst however, he makes certain that she understands he will make no other advances. Driving her back to the hotel, he leaves her at the door with a kiss on the cheek. When Paul returns to his apartment does the realism of the evening hit him; grasping that its time to get on with his life, though this time without his wife.

I am always delighted when receiving a book by Ms. Lindley. Having read Eye of Alloria and The Cimmerian City, I am confident that any story with her name on it will be fun and captivating. One Evening in London, published by Lavender Isis Press, delivered all that, including a soothing, relaxing experience. Its pace is easy, though lively in character and low on angst, offering the perfect book to unwind with.
