In Mystic Keepers 1: Cayenne, Aubrey Ross has created a world that makes the saying opposites attract an intricate part of their very makeup. In their dimension, there are three separate units in two opposing divisions that are related to energy, information, and spirituality. As members of the Orders of Flame and Frost, they both belong to the Unit of Energy. On the one hand, we have Malik that has trained many years to hone his skills as a Frost Keeper. He knows what he is capable of and he is comfortable with his powers. He will have his mate at any cost and will put her safety and pleasure before his own. On the other hand, we have Cayenne, the Flame Heiress. She has been denied the extensive training that is typical of their kind. She struggles to understand all that Malik is telling her and to control her powers. Cayenne must rely on her body’s affinity for her soul mate to see her through Pim Noctar.
The first book in the Mystic Keepers series by Aubrey Ross is a definite winner. From the first page to the last, the sexual heat and tension between Cayenne and Malik is out of this world. They literally are opposites of the same energy, one icy cold, and the other burning hot. Malik knows how to control his Frost nature to counteract Cayenne’s out of control Flame essence, but he will need to teach her some control over her nature before she sets him on fire. I enjoyed the unique bond that they shared. Giving up a little control and letting Malik give her what she needs, Cayenne learns that as her soul mate, Malik will do anything to ensure her happiness and pleasure. While this tale had plenty of sexual energy going on, it was also interspersed with murder and intrigue that kept me interested and craving more.
