On his way to answer a summons from the King, Dalton stumbles on a young woman bathing in a pool and well, rather enjoying herself. After a brief encounter during which Dalton tells this foolish young woman of the dangers that could come due to her outdoor activities, he rides on to meet with the King like any good and loyal subject. The King charges him with guarding his headstrong daughter while she decides what suitor she will marry. Dalton is surprised to find the young woman from the pool is Princess Elara and knows his job is not going to be an easy one. Not only must he fight his attraction to her, he must keep her out of trouble.
Princess Elara is outraged to find she has a keeper. The fact that it is the man she met while bathing only adds fuel to the fire. Her attraction to him is second only to her desire to do what she wants. Sparks fly but Dalton is determined and Princess Elara is faced with a man who refuses to be bullied. He sleeps in her apartments in the castle, follows her everywhere. But when someone tries to kidnap her, she realizes having a guard around isn’t always a bad thing.
Kelli A. Wilkins has crafted a charming, but very brief, story of what can happen when common meets nobility. In this reviewer’s opinion, A Most Unusual Princess is, while not a fabulous read, a good one if you’ve never read stories of this type before. The world Ms. Wilkins has created comes through vaguely, leaving much to the reader’s imagination, but the focus on the feelings of Dalton and Elara is spot on. While Ms. Wilkins is a whiz with dialogue, her sense of place is something that needs work..
In my opinion, I suggest picking up A Most Unusual Princess if you have little time to get truly involved in a book and are looking for a quick read.
Good reading,
