Sent to investigate the murders of twenty young women dating back twenty years, Claire Hallowell had her work cut out for her in the one horse hick town. Posing as Dorothy Walker, she had her work cut out for her as the assistant to Chief Derek Jacob. His office was a disorganized mess and no real filing system to speak of. She’d already had to fight to get what she needs to keep the office running smoothly while her new boss was out of town on vacation. Her opinion of the chief had sunk low as she waited for his return from his vacation. Already irritated with the chief’s lateness, arriving near noon, matters worsened when he began hitting on her from the moment he’d laid eyes on her. In her opinion the chief was lewd, crude, and lacking in any decency and a werewolf. She’d tried to quit twice and the fact that she was physically attracted to the boorish male only fueled her irritation at him. Claire needs to keep her mind focused on the job at hand and that did not include sleeping with the boss. She had a murder spanning twenty years to solve and she needed her current job to access the files she would need.

Claire had a job to do. Would she be able to curb her attraction to him and get her job done? Finding the killer responsible for the young women over the past twenty years was her main concern and the demon chasing after her claiming she belonged to him. How was she going to protect those she worked with from him? Her life had just gotten even more complicated than when she had been an FBI agent. But then again the FBI had their suspicions of her hadn’t they? Claire needed to find a common ground as she tried to fight the ever growing attraction to chief Jacob and doing her job. Claire is not only trying to figure out who the murderer of the twenty women but why she is more attracted to her boss than she should be. She had her job cut out for her in more ways than one. Will she succeed in what she’d set out to do? Or will Chief Derek Jacob be more of a hindrance than help?

Chief Derek Jacob had just arrived back to his office after being away on vacation for a week to find a brand new assistant who disliked him on sight. It didn’t help matters that he had arrived later than he should have been which was at noon and he had been greeted by another female in the lobby right in front of her. What he hadn’t counted on was finding his mate. At the first sight and scent of her he was hooked. A werewolf; the alpha of his pack, he’d already lost one mate. But that was when he was young and had no clue about mating. This time he was ready in more ways than one.

Derek has finally found his true mate. The problem for him is how he was going to convince her that what he felt for her was real. That she was not just another notch on his belt. And how was he going to tell her that he was a werewolf? Will he succeed in convincing her that he did love her? Derek also knew that his new mate has been lying to him about who she really was. Will he be able to convince her to come clean and tell him what he needs to know in order to protect her and his pack? Will he reveal what he was to her? The full moon is just around the corner, what or how was he going to explain what it all entailed for her?

Jenny Penn brings to life the struggles of ex FBI agent Claire Hallowell and Sheriff Chief Derek Jacob. Either it’s their need for each other and their attraction or trying to solve a murder spanning twenty years that started from chief Jacob’s ex girlfriend, and on top of that trying to figure out how to keep a demon from finally coming after Claire. Everyday is a struggle for the two when Derek can’t keep his hands off her and Claire herself can’t say no even though she tries. Not to mention how will Derek reveal his secret to his new mate. Will they succeed in finding the murderer and keep the demon from coming for Claire? Will she accept that she was now mated to a werewolf? The only way to find out is to keep reading and enjoy the ride.

Mating Claire is rife with lots of sexual tension between both main characters. I had fun reading it wondering if Claire would ever accept Derek and trust him enough to reveal who she was and why she was in Wilsonville, North Carolina; or would Derek control his libido long enough to get his job done. I enjoyed this book since it brought out a whole gamut of emotions from me as I kept reading. In my opinion this story is a very enjoyable read. I loved every minute of it. I recommend it. It is a great story that will leave you with a lot of different emotions from irritation at both Derek and Claire’s antics to laughter. Not to mention the other supporting characters in the story.

Happy reading,
Lynne
