She had time to spare. Her former place of employment had moved to New Zealand, and now Kate was at loose ends. When her sister, Viola's husband died, Kate is more than happy to give up her apartment and move in to take care of her sister. Although there was a span of twelve years between them, the two women are very close. Viola has always been the petite one, and Kate, although the younger of the pair, was taller, and bolder, and she soon became the self appointed body guard. Viola depended on Kate. It wasn't as though Viola could not take care of herself, it is just that she had loved Charles so deeply, and has been hit so hard by his passing that she almost fell totally apart. She did not bear grief well, and Kate's presence has proved to be the help she needs. The invitation to spent the Christmas holiday with her brothers-in-law has Viola pleading with Kate once again. She wants to go, but not alone. Kate, being the dutiful sister as usual, is persuaded to go along.
Kate is not sure this is a good idea. Viola's brother-in-law, Bart, issued the invitation. Bart and his thirteen year old son Grant, live with the youngest brother, and she feels that can only be trouble. Kate is very leery of the arrangements. She only remembers Liam from her sister's wedding, and she didn't like him then, and she is sure the feeling was mutual. Kate also knows her feelings haven't changed much. She still thinks of Liam as arrogant and totally insufferable. She has agreed to accompany Viola, and on first sight of the house, is glad that she did. No matter what else Liam may be, he has exquisite taste, and has created an oasis of peace in an otherwise troubled world. The house is beautiful, and the allure and the danger has become plain. She has sworn that no man would ever get to her heart. But Liam is no longer the arrogant youth of her memories. Time has played the most cruel trick of all. Maturity sits will on him, and his youth has left in its wake a confident, devastatingly handsome man with slashing sliver eyes, and a touch that nearly causes her knees to buckle.
Liam is not really thrilled by the guests that his brother has invited for holiday. There was nothing he really wanted to do about it, he understands why Bart wanted to include Viola in the plans. He liked Viola well enough, and she was always welcome, it is Kate he isn't too sure of seeing again. He is aware that he had behaved badly toward her at their other meeting, but she was rather disagreeable. Liam is determined to make the best of the situation. He knows what he is doing. He is a confirmed bachelor, and that is one thing that he won't forget. There is no woman worth the headache, the heartache, or the danger to his well-being. Liam has had his close calls, and he has learned his lessons. He also intends to put those lessons to good use. Why Bart had to invite them both, he will never know, but he was not going to be so rude as to rescind the invitation. Thank heavens he would not need to play the charming host for at least two weeks. Work was a wonderful excuse, and it truly would keep him extremely busy for at least the first two weeks of the visit. At least that will give him a reprieve from...Kate!
The stunning woman perched on the stool in his kitchen cannot be Kate! That is definitely not a tall, gangly, awkward and ungainly critter. That is one of the most luscious confections he has ever set his eyes on, and unless he has missed his guess, Kate has grown into quite a beauty. Who would have guessed that the tangle that had been the teen, could have metamorphosed into the delightful creature before his eyes. He has to be very careful, he knows how she feels about him, and he doesn't want the hostilities to spoil the holiday. The strange thing is the way Bart and Viola keep trying to play matchmakers. It is kind of shocking to realize Bart is in love with Viola, but that doesn't give him the right to ruin Liam's hard won bachelorhood. They will just have to find out the hard way that he will not be manipulated. There is no way that he is going to fall in with their plans, and by the looks of things, Kate is of the same mind. A truce then, a "playing of the game" to keep the erstwhile matchmakers off their backs.
Tricia McGill has given us a story about two people who are trying very hard to resist the pull of love. Kate and Liam are delightful antagonists and give the reader an interesting trip into the foibles of two people determined to live lives alone. Kate is the one who is afraid to love. she has seen only the devastation it leaves in it's wake. She is convinced that her parents are the only couple to have such happiness. Liam has had his share of bad experiences, and the conclusions he has come to have all been similar. It is much better to rely only on yourself, and stay away from love. Look Into Your Heart is exactly what these two are told to do, and still the path is not smooth. Neither one wants to put themself into harms way. That is the way they both view love. It is the ultimate danger to them, and they are not going to take the plunge easily or gracefully.
Kate and Liam possess artistic temperaments, and you know that there are going to be fireworks, you just never know how many or what kind. Look Into Your Heart is a fun and interesting exploration into love and all its trials. It starts with a pair of matchmaking siblings, is complicated by a teenaged crush, and is upset by mixed signals, and a sizzling attraction that is hard to resist. This contemporary romance is a great adventure into the lives of two people who just don't recognize love when they feel it, and are really fighting a losing battle from the start. Tricia has provided a wonderful cat and mouse relationship, with plenty of sensual overtones. Liam and Kate are an entertaining pair, and I found that Look Into Your Heart was a delightful read. I can say that you should keep you eyes open for this one. It is due out in June from Wings ePress, and it will be a good addition to your eBookshelf.
