Thirteen years ago she caught him skinny dipping in her uncle’s pool. Being a thirty year-old married woman at the time, she cringes at her lewd behavior. Though not looking away, just watching him with carnal interest. However, the boy/man aware she was there, giving a show, as he seductively removes each article of his clothing, and then saunters to the pool’s edge, giving her just one last longer look before diving in. Today, she is divorced and, with uncertainty, starting her life over. He has grown into a seasoned, well traveled man, possessing a wealth of life experiences. He returns to his home town intending to breathe life into a decade’s old fantasy surrounding the woman that haunts his lusty dreams, for far too long.
Divorcée, Lily Martin is uncertain about her future where at forty-three with grown children, she has neither skills for gainful employment nor the self-esteem to change it. Throughout her life, either Lily’s mother or husband reiterated about what was expected of her - as a daughter, wife and mother. Selflessly she attends to everyone’s needs and whims, disregarding any thoughts concerning herself. When her husband leaves for a younger woman, Lily believes life holds nothing for a nobody like herself. A solid conviction until Ryan Kincaid rides in on his Harley, packing not only an eclectic array of sexual fantasies, bringing too a healthy dose of self confidence and a whole lot of belief…in Lily. In one day she experiences the liberating feel of nudity, followed by satisfying and adventurous sex. When she confesses to wanting to grow more personally Ryan is more then willing to help her form a plan, and broaden her experiences. Her uncle Mack leaving her the house and Ryan now living in his family home, Lily is easily accessible. After giving her several months of mourning Ryan begins his seduction.
Ms. Ashbury writes strong, earthy characters as Ryan's assertive independence begins to rub off on Lily. Watching her blossom sexually makes his knees buckle. His loving proves her attractiveness and desirability, also clearly not at fault for her husband leaving. Readers witness Lily’s dwindling insecurities and rising self confidence. However, helping her to stand up to a selfish, domineering family proves a bit more challenging for Ryan. Uncomfortable with interfering in Lily’s family matters, he cannot tolerate the emotional battering she endured by the ex-husband, mother, and even her children. It’s apparent they are accustomed to her yielding under their control.
A bit infuriating when Lily’s son, John attempts to extort money from his mother, demanding she sell her home to finance his graduate college program, mostly because he doesn’t want to work. Afterwards, he weaves a tale for his grandmother and father, telling of mom’s immoral excess and sexual decadence. This motivates Lily’s mother to have the property, inherited from her uncle, put up for sale. When that fails grandma sends Child Services after Lily, accusing her of harboring and engaging in carnal pleasure with a minor – a teenager by the name of Ryan Kincaid. A hilarious meeting occurs between the Service Worker and a very adult Ryan, fully igniting his temper after the woman barges in on his shower. Ryan vows to put a stop to Lily’s family’s depraved meddling. Through his assertive presence and some intentional verbal lashings, Ryan makes it clear to mom, son, and ex-husband that their bullying will not be tolerated any longer. His chivalrous act convinces Lily of her worthiness and deserving respect. It must be mentioned that Lily’s daughter, Alice seems to genuinely embrace her mother’s newfound independence. In showing support, Alice discourages mom from selling the house for her brother’s benefit, and looks forward to spending quality “adult” time with mom. At least one person from her family views Lily for what she truly is… kind, considerate and quite capable.
An erotic emotionally pleasing story, Lily in Bloom captivates and mesmerizes readers. Ms. Ashbury gives an honest although lusty portrayal of the concerns and criticism older women endure when loving a younger man. She offers valuable insights into the natural evolution of this kind of relationship, and how it’s an ordinary biological loving between two people. Age disparity is not an option for address. Definitely a story to be read time and time again…
Ms. Ashbury has more works to entice her readers…coming soon from Siren Publishing is anthology, Rapture that features her short story The Enchantress, and Magic and Love Trilogy Book 3: The Prince for Sophie.
