There is only one thing left for Garrick to do to stop the wickedness. The story goes there is an elven sword that can destroy the high priest. The Dark Priest Narokah, high priest to Arahmin, the God of Blood is trapped with the one person who turned him into a red dragon. When he is finally freed from the spell, he sets out to complete the final ritual of setting free his god as the battle of good versus evil begins.
Meggahn du Val is doomed to marry Baron Madric le Mordah, the Red Lord, and a very sadistic man. She despised the man immensely. As the daughter of the Low-Lord of Gola-Dah she has no idea she is to take an incredible journey. As she worries about her destiny on her last night of freedom a black dragon flies across the sky. She knows this is her only hope if she wishes to escape the unwanted marriage. After she asks the dragon for help, she finds a whole different life as hers suddenly changes before her eyes as she embarks on an unforgettable adventure. As she follows the black dragon, she tries to catch up to him, but only finds Garrick. When her heart is captivated by a legendary king, she knows she will never be able to have a marriage with the Red Lord.
It was many years ago when Garrick battled the wicked Narokah. He refused to allow him to raise a dark God to destroy his beloved land of Tarlis. Unfortunately, Garrick didn’t win after Narokah cheated death and changed into a dragon then escaped. The only way Garrick could avoid any hurt to come to himself, was transform into a dragon, so he commanded his sorcerer, Arkron to change him into a dragon. Then he ordered him to cast a spell and cast them both into The Book of Stars. After being cast into the magical book, things seem to be going quiet in the land until the spell is broken and once again the men change into their human form. Garrick searches for the one magic sword that will put a stop to Narokah. As he sets on his journey, he takes Arkron, a sorcerer with him and Vellandril Ballindoch, an elf. Meggahn du Val and Johden, another young lady, accompany them, as well. Lady Johden, of the Castle de Danann, has one strong desire to be a Knight of the Stars.
As the five begin their search, they soon learn the sword is not the only thing that is on the expedition. Meggahn is on a quest to rescue her mother, while Garrick needs to locate a concealed pool with healing magic because as the days pass before him, he is slowly turning back into a dragon. Meggahn knows if she is caught by the vicious baron, his strong power is deadly. When she accompanies Garrick she is thrown into the age-old clash between him and Narokah. But as they each set out on the quest, the discovery of new friends abound as the high priest of Narokah is set on revenge to be released quickly. Garrick and the others have to race against time if Garrick wishes to save his land of Tarlis.
Legacy of the Black Dragon is a very entertaining read. The mythological worlds that the reader encounters takes on different shapes and turns as Garrick searches for the one sword that will allow good to win over evil. Throw in a young damsel who doesn’t wish to marry a brutal powerful lord, and there is bound to be some chaos along the way, especially when a wicked dragon, that has turned human, is dying to release his ever powerful lord that can really release a basket of demons. The characters, along with all the secondary characters are so deep that it keeps the storyline fascinating. I could practically feel the emotions of Garrick and Meggahn. I, too, would be searching a way to get out of marrying some terrible person I didn’t wish to wed. And poor Garrick, trying to get out of being a dragon, again, he just reached out and touched this reader. The protagonists created some great scenes to give impact to the storyline. I found the story visual as if a huge painting on a canvas with just the right sprinkle of romance.
