Keely Gray, a gifted healer, who was born a bastard, lives in an isolated region in Scotland. With the death of her mother, she accepts no help even from her biological father, knowing full well that she could never live with him. Keely abides her time with an old man named Whipple, who acts like her guardian angel, and a father who has always been there for her, watching over her to keep her safe. After a jaunt into the woods, they happen upon a beaten man in the path and Keely refuses to leave him. He must be brought to her home. Besides, people were always coming to her for some kind of help. This wounded man was a priest, one she was certain from her dream. It would be wrong to leave him there in case his attackers returned. At first she draws to him slowly making sure it is no trick, anything to get within her reach and grab for her powerful hands. But this priest was not lying in ambush to harm her, he was indeed wounded.

Keely takes the hurt man to her home and caters to him until he is restored back to his health. She feels that he may be in danger from his attackers and taking him to her home, she and Whipple will be able to further tend to his wounds. From the moment she gets to see a good view of him, she finds him handsome, and even though, a stranger, and still not knowing much about him, something tells her that he still could be dangerous. She realizes that she has enemies that would enjoy doing her harm, how can she be sure this is not one appearing in wolves clothing? If he learns that she has certain healing powers, he could use it to his advantage; then again he still could be pulling the wool over her eyes. Either way, she has to be careful as each day with the handsome stranger sends a soothing warmth to her soul.

Ian MacPherson is a Scottish warrior who was attacked and left for dead. Of course after his brutal assault, he has no memory of his anything, his country, family or anything. He couldn’t be happier that Keely came to his rescue and has nursed him back to health, for that he will be most grateful. If he could only recollect his memory, things would be a bit smoother for him. The injuries were enough to almost kill him. Since he cannot even recall his name, she refers to him as Obrien until she learns his true identity. All he sees is a beautiful angel who will stop at nothing to make him whole again.

Keely and Ian must find a way to bring back his memory. She has to make sure that he is not an enemy out to destroy him. She knows the villagers already believe her to be a witch and now this strange man could have his own special powers. All she wished to do was get along with everyone but the villagers thought her as a common criminal and should be burned at the stake. Even though Keely has powers, she does not use any dark powers that cause harm. And if she does learn that he is out to harm her, she doesn’t know how she will react. She has already fallen in love with Ian and even though she is different, she still could lose her life, even if her love burns deep for him. There is only one thing left for her to do, follow her heart and have courage enough to face her enemy to keep a life with Ian. One thing that bothers her is when she touches Ian, who claims to be a priest; she discovers there is no vision or anything. She is most curious since this has never happened to her which makes Whipple wonder just who is this man and if he really is a priest. When he learns that Ian is really hunted by the king’s men, he knows Keely will have to make a most difficult choice.

Highland Magic captivates and spins with incredible characters that are not only strong but deliver dynamic passion as they search their love for one another. The way Keely and Ian response to each other is truly captivating. They show their vulnerability even when it comes to making errors in judgment and together they work to make it better. As witches were often feared and burned alive, Keely must keep her powers hid from the world or one little misunderstanding can shout to the world that she practices with the dark side when in reality, she doesn’t do such but the villagers don’t really believe this and make her feel as if she doesn’t belong. This in itself enhances the story, since Keely goes through her days feeling like she will always be alone for the exception of Whipple. Then when one handsome stranger enters her midst, her heart practically melts. Keely gives a great heads up performance as an almost shy little girl who would love to fit in and find passion with someone forever. The well-rounded secondary characters blend in making the story feel as if it is a huge sketching on canvas and being enacted for all to see.

Christine Young weaves a daring plot as she explores mayhem and love that entwines for Keely as she tries to stay strong and combat the enemies that will do anything to get within her grasps. Keely and Ian are like two lost souls that click in unison with a love that is grand and pure. She pens a fascinating tale that allows the reader to fill the emotions that stir within the characters and turns a young girl into a courageous soul. Every detail of the story is so visual it makes the story appear realistic. With a touch of captivating romance and some intrigue along the way, she graces the pages with a tale that is wonderfully addicted in another great tale surrounding the McPherson family.

Sincerely good reading,

Linda
