Love is a wonderful thing, but it can also be scary, especially when the one you love most in the world is a vampire. Then there is the rocky road of emotion that often clouds things, but nothing prepared Jasmine Tremaine for the soul shattering nightmares she was having that endangered her and all those around her. It was something the feisty witch passed off as nothing until nothing she did helped. Someone was definitely playing with her, and not in a good way either. It was bad enough she couldn’t sleep, it made it hard to function in her job as well as her side business of eliminating curses. This was not something Jazz enjoyed, and waking up beside nick, and feeling as though he had ripped her neck open was really more than she could handle. A walk on the boardwalk to clear her head was starting to help, when a ruckus alerted her to the pair of misbehaving bunny slippers she owned named Puff and Fluff. It seemed things were only gonna go from bad to worse when Rex, the manager of the boardwalk accosts her and demands she give him Puff and Fluff, and claiming they killed one of the carnies, a were-weasel named Willie.
There is no way the slippers would touch a were, and especially not a were-weasel, and Jazz knows this for a fact. Yes, the slippers had a chip on their shoulders due to the treatment they received at the hands of their maker, a very evil wizard named Dyfynnog. Now Jazz has a pair of problems on her hands that need to be solved quickly. One: find out who framed Fluff and Puff and why, and two; find out the cause or source of her nightmares before they destroy her, her magic, her sanity, and her friends. Something is very wrong, and the sooner she sets things to rights, the better. She knows Nick couldn’t have bitten her, yet she feels as though he ripped her throat out, she knows Fluff and puff couldn’t have eaten the Were, but she has to find him and prove it to Rex and the High Council. Something or someone is trying to get rid of Jazz, or discredit her, and she has to get answers immediately. Especially when Puff and Fluff are targeted and in jeopardy their very lives...
Nikolai Gregorivich really hated being a vampire when facing down Jasmine Tremaine, but that was so not the case since they had vanquished Clive Reeves. Things were going smoothly for them, and it was about time. He was even entertaining ideas of this being finally forever, the last time they would be making up. Marriage was not in the cards, but spending an eternity with Jazz was not a bad proposition. The last rough patch was over, and for once, they were not on the outs at the end of an encounter. Jazz was his, at least for now, but there was something unsettling in the air. Nick can’t put a finger on it right away, but instinct tells him there is a problem with jazz, and if she doesn’t confide in him, he can’t help her. It was a blow to him to lose Flavius when he was captured and killed by Clive Reeves. Nick had always maintained contact with his sire and friend, and his loss left a huge void in his life. He finds himself lonely, and with Jazz hurting, he really feels the need to help.
Changes are occurring at The Protectorate, changes for the worse as far as he is concerned, and Nick is definitely not one who wants to get involved. Since Flavius would have been the new leader, a power vacuum occurred and the one who has gained the power is one Nick cannot abide. She is mean, cruel, and cares nothing for the welfare of vampires or their society. Once Nick and Angelica were lovers, he called it off, and she has hated him since. She is vindictive, and he knows she is the one who wants control. When he split, it took her control of the situation away, and she has been wanting to get even with him ever since. That she could be behind this never occurred to Nick until the night Jazz came home and told him she drove Angelica to a club. Now he is on the warpath, but there is more to this than meets the eye. He and Jazz just might find themselves out-gunned in the battle, so they have to move decisively and fast to get ahead of the enemy. Before they can do that, however, they have to be able to find the one who is using the baneful magick against them, and do it before things get any worse.
Hex Appeal is another wonderful paranormal romance from author Linda Wisdom. Again she employs her talents and writes with a great sense of humor, and quick wit. Jazz Tremaine, her snarky, sassy, and thoroughly delightful witch is back with a vengeance, and her infatuation with Nikolai Gregorivich is finally coming full circle. The tall, dark, and enigmatic vampire cop is a perfect mate for Jazz, and his budding friendship with Jazz’s roommate and best friend, Krebs is yet another source of lightness, and Irma, the ghost and her ghostly dog add more laughter. It is only through the four of them working together that answers may be found, and between them, there is stronger magic that they can imagine. However, not being able to place the source of power in this scheme is a problem. It is quite a mixture, and of all the odd group to work in harmony together, Jazz and Nick have their ups and downs in leading the foursome to the cause and the resolution of the current problems. But there is always one thing each knows, the other will always be there if they are needed, just because that is what friends are for no matter what the species…creature, ghost, witch, or human.
There are ups and downs to friendships, but for some, the boulders can come in many sizes. This is what Nick, Jazz, Krebs, and Irma face when they realize that their worst enemy has found a friend, that he is back and seeking revenge. Dyfynnog is now threatening the existence of not only jazz, but Nick as well, because he is determined to destroy Jazz and anything she loves, and all to get back the pair of magical bunny slippers he created and tortured. Once again Jazz finds herself in a position where she must defeat enemies, and in a kill or be killed situation. Jazz and Nick know she barely escaped the High Witches Council with her life the last time, but this time she is facing a most deadly enemy. Can Jazz survive this blow to her abilities, and survive the set up the cunning Angelica devised? It is a hard question, but you will find the answer in Hex Appeal by Linda Wisdom. It is really a great read, and is available from Amazon, SourceBooks, Inc. and it is a book I highly recommend. While you are there, also look for her book, 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover being released this month. Meanwhile, start with Hex Appeal and enjoy the ride of your life!
