The immortal Dorian vows never to fall in love with a mere human—until he meets the beguiling, arousing, Moirae Deincourt. She stirs a longing in Dorian that he dares not quench. But when Moirae’s life is put in danger, her true nature is revealed—and the lust that rages between them can no longer be controlled…
Raiders travel across the Highlands searching for a prize, and leaving a trail of bodies to mark their way.
Moirae Deincourt is determined to protect her clan from the murderous raiders as they travel across the lands protected by Glenneyrie Castle. Warrior and peasant alike have fallen to their rampage. Armed with a bow and arrow Moirae has worked hard to develop the legend of The Guardian, in order to protect her beloved home.
The Immortal Dorian has been sent to the Highlands to discover what the raiders are up to, and if they are following the instructions of the Immortal Ionas, or working on their own. Once there he discovers the legend of The Guardian, and decides the role of The Guardian, would best suit his mission.
Angry at her secret identity being stolen, Moirae confronts Dorian within the walls of the dangerous Kilnhurst Castle. Dorian is intrigued by her spirit and courage, but he has sworn to never get involved with a mortal.
Michele Sinclair is consistent with having smart, quick thinking female characters, Moirae is no different. It is refreshing to read an author who doesn’t get stuck with the TSTL (too stupid to live) characters, and Moirae and Dorian spark from their first meeting.
I have not had a chance to read the rest of the books in this Anthology yet, but Sinclair’s The Guardian lives up to the standard that her readers have come to expect. The story is a bit short and leaves you with the feeling that there might be something more coming... We can only hope that it is soon.
The Guardian by Michele Sinclair is one of the offerings in the Anthology Highland Hunger anchored by Hannah Howell and available at the end of August at Kensington Books. When you have Michele Sinclair, Jackie Ivey, and Hannah Howell in the same anthology, you are guaranteed a great read. Look for it coming to a bookstore near you by 30 August, so read and enjoy.
