Trina Oliver resents being late. And when it comes to watching her six-year-old nephew, Trent, she hates missing any of his innings. He just happened to be in his little league baseball game when her overbearing ex-boyfriend caused her lateness. When she arrives at the game, she wonders if she is dressed properly in her Tee shirt and jeans, compared to the other women in their mini skirts. When she meets with her sister, Carla, she is told everyone dresses more becoming for the attractive coach. Trina dresses for the ballgame. She is not searching for any relationship since men only complicate life.
Trina is surprised when Coach Derek Murphy walks over with her nephew and introduces himself. The coach is undeniably handsome but what impresses her the most is their engaging conversation. When he suggests they go out one night, she looks forward to the date. Trina never expected to be a part of a relationship that would endure the test of time when Derek pursues his lifelong dream. She supports him but feels like he neglects her and she would like for him to share a life with her and his music.
Coach Derek Murphy is the type of man that many women would love to have a bit of on the coach training. When he isn’t coaching, he’s a musician who plays a variety of instruments. Growing up playing sports was his outlet in life that kept him out of trouble. He has a kind heart and his passion for teaching is a subject close to his heart. After he meets Trina, he had no idea his body would react in his a way with her just over some small talk. He liked her because she was different from other women. She came to see the game and not to attract guys and that was a huge plus in his book.
Derek would like to get to really know Trina but he has a commitment to his music. It is another life long ambition that he always wanted to do. He hopes in time that he and the other men in his band will have their own CD marketed. His desire is to have his dream and Trina.
Diary of A Love is an enjoyable short story. It starts out with an introduction of how Trina and Derek met then the author turns to five years later where they are engaged to marry. Angeleque Santiago spins the tale of a couple searching to keep their love strong. The writing is smoothly done, graphing a lovely tale of two people facing life’s challenges as Trina feels threatened by her fiancé Derek’s up and coming release of the bands first CD. Even their moments of sex have been instant. There is separation, determination and even a drastic part on Trina to keep her love alive. She only wishes to be a part of his life once more.
Diary of a Love is a story about commitment. A story that brings two people together out of love for each other while supporting them in their life long dream. It demonstrates how perseverance can heighten any relationship if either person is willing to work hard at it and not throw in the towel. I was very impressed with the characters in the story. Ms. Santiago creates a delightful short story that touches the heart. The incorporating of the diary and the CD carried a strong meaning behind it that this reader thoroughly enjoyed. If you haven’t read this short story, you are in for a treat.
