Melanie Walters has the same issues as many women have: not enough self-esteem, indignation at the male species, and a desire for the one man who can appreciate her for herself. She has gone to Club Dante to try to find some decent companionship and yet again, her hopes are dashed. While walking back to her home, she is overcome with a strange lightheadedness she can't explain and passes out. She later awakens chained and shackled and very much at the mercy of an unknown captor.
As she contemplates her dilemma, feelings of arousal crowd her mind and she struggles to understand what is happening to her. Although she is not really afraid, she slips into one of her fantasies in order to cope. Panic is calmed by the fact that she is still clothed but that relief will be replaced with more livid thoughts as she is to find out. She will be shown that love comes in many forms and not always the knight on the white horse.
Club owner and lonely vampire, Jacob Dante has been on a covert mission for weeks. His target: one Melanie Walters. He has been searching for a woman that can set his soul afire and just one word from her luscious mouth sets his blood boiling. It had been a very long time since this handsome night owl had felt the intense passion and love this human female created in him.
Jacob has been watching and planning his every move with his intended and he has no plans to fail in his quest to make Melanie love him in every way possible. He has left no stone unturned and delights in the way his beloved reacts to his caresses and dark kisses. He is playing for keeps and his desire to slowly transform her runs afoul when outside forces work to destroy what he is desperately trying to achieve.
Christy Poff has taken an ancient theme and bestowed new, extremely fun, and definitely scorching hot action to the realm of the vampire. The vampire here is terribly unhappy with the emptiness in his tired existence and Melanie can more than adequately fill the need if only interference from outsiders does not undo the magic they are creating.
I found the connection between Melanie and Jacob to be tender and touching. The author has discovered a creative way of presenting the all-encompassing love that consumes and yet feeds these two souls on their way to true happiness. I highly recommend this quickie read for a day when you need a lift of the spirits and I am honored to have read it.
