Melissa MacRae knows everyone in town knows not to screw around with a local witch. Her good friend, Karen, feels Melissa should find someone and roll around in the sheets to relieve some of her stress. In a small town, Melissa knows there is really no one to be found. As the owner of the Whispering Pines Resort she gets many tourists into the area. When newcomer Jonas comes to rent a secluded cabin, Melissa is certain there is more to him that meets the eye. In fact, she finds him quite different from the others. Being a witch, Melissa, has the capacity to see beyond many things. Her witchy instinct is able to tip her off that Jonas is far more than what he confesses.
Jonas Pierce, or Joe, knew that Whispering Pines wasn’t the place he was expecting. When he had made reservations for the most remote cabin, he could tell by the sorry dirt track, he got his wish. The cabin, though old as the forest, was really neat and maintained. There was no TV or phone, which meant he would have to go into town for Internet service but that was no problem. As a horror novelist, research in the backwaters was part of the job. One look at the cabin and everything else was absolutely perfect. He assures his landlady, Mel, he needs no one to come in and clean for him; he is use to cleaning up for himself. There to finish one book then start on another, he desires to be left alone. One thing he does is offer to treat Mel to dinner for all her help.
Joe tries to avoid reporters. Being a famous author, and werewolf, in which he keeps a secret, often comes with drawbacks, and staying out of the public eye is something he chooses. He has only confessed to one true friend, Kent Willoughby, his terrible cursed secret. He wishes to keep his private life completely privileged. After all, living within a family of wolves, often passes a curse from one generation to the next. After he meets Mel, his lovely landlady, it appears he would like to get to know her better. Unfortunately there is a reporter stalking him, wishing to reveal Joe’s true identify, and he must find a way to keep his curse a secret.
Melissa knows that falling in love is a bad thing, and MacRaes and marriages do not mix. That was before she met the daring Jonas. He has an enigma about him that intrigues. In time she brings out the softer side of him, and he notices that his life with Mel takes precedence over secrets of his family curse. When Mel appears to be stalked, Joe is determined to stop the stalker before he harms Mel. Joe has desires for Melissa and wishes to claim her as his, but he, too, realizes his life does not include marriage or children. The more they are drawn to the other; their heart begins to tell them otherwise. She no longer wishes to deny any feelings of finding that everlasting love. But once the reporter discovers Joe’s whereabouts and learns that a werewolf is shacking up with a witch, their love may never be destined to become a reality.
