During the Landry ball, a note telling each person to meet the other in the wine seller successfully puts them into a delicate circumstance. As the door locks behind them, neither is able to get out of the predicament, so resolve to make the best of their arrangement. Rescued the next morning, gives enough time – according to Victorian standards - ensures the ingénue is suitably debauched whereas the rake must decidedly marry her.
Christa Hatton, the Duke of Dunbarton’s daughter, is an intelligent, confident woman. Not concerned with the loss of her virtue, though confident her father’s financial power fixes the scandal erupting over her unescorted company with Andrew Carlton. Christa is shocked when her father insists they marry. Distraught, she holds hope that Andrew will support her view that it is not necessary. To Christa’s dismay he backs her father’s observation and then provides a plan for a quick wedding.
Andrew Carlton is a man who enjoys singlehood mostly the perks that go along with it; mainly bedding any and all available women without emotional or physical attachments. Once married to Dunbarton’s daughter, he expects a dutiful young girl scared of her own shadow. Instead once the first night of wedded bliss passes, his virginal bride transforms into a formidable woman with carnal thirsts equal to his own. Still he is determined to uncover the culprit responsible for destroying an innocent woman’s virtue, when the true intent was to tarnish his reputation, so permanently removing him from proper society. At least that is what he believed. As he uncovers the deeply buried truth, it shocks both Dunbarton’s and Calton’s families.
Reformed Rakes 2: Compromising Situations, from Siren Publishing, is a charming historical novella with captivating characters that support a suspenseful, sexually sizzling plot. Having a husband who is good in bed is a definite plus for a woman who isn’t afraid of getting… untidy. Christa takes pleasure in the feelings Andrew shares in their bed, sex every day that brings her to euphoric heights never imagined. When they make love in places most people would find unacceptable, like in the garden on his country estate, only entices her more to experience breadth of her sexuality. As for Andrew… well, he is most delighted in edifying his wife’s carnal aptitude.
As the two newly weds familiarize themselves with one another, Christa continues to receive notes claiming Andrew “will not be faithful” as the next one lists all his past lovers, and then the most recent note claims the writer is now carrying Andrew’s child. A bit disheartening to a young woman not long married with hopes of reforming a confirmed rogue into a dutiful husband.
A prolific writer, Ms. Wildes is merciless in tantalizing and entertaining readers with sultry characters, and intriguing story lines.
