Jack knew this place. This was desert sand. Jack felt the hair on the back of his neck stand up. He opened his mouth to call for Caroline but she was already moving toward him. Everything began to happen in slow motion. He felt the rush of air very close to his ear and watched as Caroline’s head swung to one side. Slowly, her eyes on him, she dropped to her knees.
Yeah, it was truly a heinous crime, the horror that Jack Weaver and his lovely wife had been through. The trouble they faced in the past two years would be enough to make most people want to hide. Being the former wife of a highly placed Senator, Caroline couldn't tell the world what her life had been like. Few people knew the truth of what his beautiful and graceful wife had suffered through, but Jack was all too aware. The beatings and rapes she suffered at Senator Walter's hands were not pretty; he saw the evidence first hand when he kidnapped her, thus saving her life. Only Jack knew how truly strong her will to live was, how intelligent and resourceful a mind was hidden behind the frosty, aloof façade. Only a select few were able to see beyond to the warm and beautiful person hiding there, and he was the luckiest of all because she was all his. Caroline was his to love, his to protect, and Jack was going to do the very best he could to see to it she was never in such extreme danger again. That was one promise he would literally die to keep, because he couldn’t live without Caroline.
There was something Jack couldn’t get out of his mind, and that was a person named Mohammed Rabin. The man was evil incarnate, and not just because he murdered all the men in Jack’s former unit. It went beyond that, and was the cause of his latest nightmare. Of course their return to Washington to see to the sale of the Walter’s estate, where Caroline had been held hostage for so many cruel and grueling years, was a real possibility as well when it came to subjects for his night terrors. The true unease, however, was caused by the remembrance of that one voice, and the slimy and pervasive evil in the sound would not let Jack go. In his last nightmare, it taunted him, and it made Jack wonder if he were psychic or paranoid. He knew Rabin has not been caught, that he is still out there somewhere. And it was probably a huge factor in the restlessness beginning to plague him. The man had money, talons like a raptor, and an insane hatred for Americans, and Jack in particular. Neither hell nor high water would keep Jack from going after the man if he dared to show his face again or threaten his wife. Not ever again, if he had to do it by himself, he would hunt Rabin down like the dog he was…
Caroline Weaver was edgy as they approached the house which held nothing but terrible memories. She knew she had to face the terror and bad memories now, get the place ready and take any personal effects she might have left behind before the place is put on the market. Just being there makes her edgy, puts her almost in a panic mode even though the house is empty of all signs of her ex-husband. This is a task she really has no stomach for, yet Caroline, for all she has been through is strong, determined, and as ready as she will ever be to get this over and done with quickly. Hopefully she and Jack wouldn’t have to stay more than a night or two within the walls, but having him there with her gave her strength enough to continue. He was her real strength, and he had taught her things, helped her through the worst time in her life, and would have given his life for hers in a flash if necessary. Those were not the actions of the man she had been told he was, and as she and Jack grew closer, the danger moved in, and yet she was able face and destroy the one man she hated most in the world, none other than her abusive husband, Senator Warren Walters.
Lucy Weaver was an experienced FBI agent, one of the few people in Washington who knew the truth behind her brother’s situation. It was Lucy who took the information to the authorities to clear Jack’s name and reputation. What happened in Colombia was not a pleasant business, and yet, for Jack to be so wrongly accused was indefensible and something Lucy wouldn’t stand for. When the truth of the matter came forward, the betrayal Jack faced while on a dangerous mission to break a drug cartel and the subsequently foiled plot against the newly elected President, it made him a bonafide hero. It made Lucy proud to be related to him as she stuck by his side when others would have jailed him or seen him put to death for treason. What she wasn’t ready for was to be kidnapped, held hostage, and trussed like a turkey for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. Especially troublesome was the delightful vest-bomb made of C4 she was wearing. Time was definitely not on her side at the moment…
Jack is BACK!!! Need I say more? For those of you who have been waiting for this, he is here in all his glory and tapping his resources again to save the world from a terrorist. And for those of you new to the world of “Lies” and Kelly Abell, WELCOME to a really great read. It is a brand new life, and a hopefully new start that gets horribly sidetracked when Jack and Caroline return to Washington. They are hoping to clear up a few loose ends, get rid of the unwanted property, and retire to Florida where Jack and Caroline are building a security business. It is something Jack knows well, how to keep people safe, and he is certain, once they get a few personal items from Caroline’s, the house sold, and people notified, they can go back to Plant City, a non-descript, quiet, and altogether lovely backwater in Florida. It is there they wish to put down roots, raise a family, and get away from the incessant buzz and political intrigue of the Washington Metro Area. They were in the spotlight too long and it was a harsh light, not at all conducive to a peaceful way of life, or a restful situation for either of them.
Now, however, an old enemy has plans and they include taking everything away from Jack that he loves, and he starts with Caroline. She survives, but is blinded and badly injured. Now Jack is in a quandary because with Caroline incapacitated, and not trusting anyone for certain, he has to turn to the only help he can get, Dane Kendrick, an exceptional cop with military expertise, and one who pulled Jacks bacon out of the fire when he was in Iraq. With the plans that Mohammed has now, and with his sister Lucy in danger, too, Jack knows the only way to get things done is with Dane’s help. He pulls all the strings he can get and with the President’s help, secures Caroline, gets Dane assigned to lead the task force, and goes on the hunt. The plan is complicated, and Jack knows there are two targets, he also knows Mohammed will not expect him to get help. Will Jack make it in time to save Lucy? Will he and Dane be able to find the second target? With Captured in Lies, Kelly Abell writes a riveting story of danger, intrigue, espionage, romance, and puts it all together with a political twist when necessary. It is a fast paced book, and one you will want to read again and again. Following hard on the heels of Sealed in Lies, book two takes up about two years after the events chronicled there and brings that particular portion of the tale to an end. But as always, HOW it ends is a total surprise, and how they get to that end is a journey you will thoroughly enjoy. Kelly has done a great job, and Captured in Lies is definitely a book for your Keeper Shelf! So stroll on over to Solstice Publishing and get your copy of Captured in Lies today.
