Jason Donavon is a man on a mission. Straggly and quite homeless, he is determined to end this curse one way or another. He was not meant for this, and until three years ago, he hadn't been in his current shape at all. An accountant by trade, he was a man who had a comfortable and successful life. Had is the operative word in this instance, because things have surely changed, and very tragically, for him and his brother Rick. Three years ago, a fateful hunting trip left him a dead man to all who knew him, loved him, and now there is no going back. The sense of guilt weighs heavily on him because that which rendered him as dead, has also harmed his brother.

He has to find and destroy this creature, and the nightmare that now passes for his life. He is a man tracked and haunted by the moon. His reality is definitely not a movie script version that has been glossed over in romantic mystique. The creatures in the alley were not like him at all, and the woman? She is still a mystery. She has yet to answer his many questions. She has said that she can help him, but he doesn't know if he can trust her. He doesn't even know what his status is here, for one moment he is being threatened, the next, almost an honored guest. Yet, there is something that is not quite right here....wherever here is.....

Tala wasn't who or what she wanted to be at all. She is 'special', and it means nothing to her. The very thing that sets her apart from her tribe, the Oyate ba`cho, is a curse to her. She has no friends, no chance at a family, and in her mind....no life. Life is a home, a family, a mate to cook and sew for, a man to love and care for, and children! In return, he would be a man who would protect her, love her, and provide her with the children she wants, longs for, if the whole truth be told. She is The Huntress, a position that gives her honor in the eyes of her people, a protector who searches and destroys the Others. She hates the killing, the loneliness, the separation she feels, but the man she has brought home has given her hope. She thinks he is the key to a salvation, at least that is her hope, but only time will tell...if she had enough of it left.

Innovative and delightfully wicked with a dark sense of humor, Ronda Thompson's newest book, Call of the Moon, is a gripping and yet hauntingly sad tale of one life given unwillingly to insure a people's survival, and another taken away by a cruel twist of fate. Poignant and funny at the same time with a true sense of horror, it can't help but be an exciting read. It is a richly written tale of love, hate, betrayal, and redemption. The struggles of Jason and Tala, two people cursed and forbidden to each other, are only a part of the whole. The continued existence of a small group of people is dependent on them adapting, and they are fighting it hard. Deeply entrenched in the old ways, it takes a stranger in their midst to open the eyes of The Oyate ba`cho and free their resentments.

The beauty and grace of Call of the Moon is that it pulls out the stops and lets us all see the beast within ourselves, and know that all is not lost. If only more of humankind could realize that the losses we suffer only lead us to gains of equal or greater value. Wouldn't this world be a better place? Call of the Moon is a five star, five heart, five slipper, five of whatever you want to give it read! It is a MUST BUY, a charming and daring sequel that takes us back to the Canadian woods where it all started with Ronda's "Midnight Serenade" in the anthology "After Twilight".

Yours in good reading,

Rose!
