It is always difficult for me to review an anthology. There are sometimes stories one really loves, and some that just don’t quite make it for the reader. In this case, the whole book has been carefully crafted with an eye toward the lovers of Romance, and yes, I mean that with a capital “R.” From the very first page, you know this book is going to be something special. Not only does it feature some of the best authors Allure has to offer, but they are doing their best work within these 300 and some odd pages
They made me laugh, then almost cry. From the story of an enchanted locket whose owner has to release her own dream man from a horrible fate, to the sexy bad girl whose love life is about to change when the cargo container she is hauling spills out a gorgeous hunk. The Allure ladies give us stories which titillate, excite, and take you along for a fabulous ride. I am sure you will all find your favourites, and yet I did not find even one I can say I really didn’t like in this volume. The variety is charmingly blended with paranormal and contemporary tales assured to heat your cold nights. That is the allure and the delightful nature of an anthology.
My own favourite came in the sexy funny story of an assistant D.A. who has had such a busy real life she has no time for the bad love life she wishes she could ignore. Things are so bad, when she stops at a roadhouse on the way to her nephew’s birthday party to make a call, strange ideas fill her head. A big storm is in the making, and she needs the break and a phone. When a sinfully handsome bad boy hunk catches her eye, she wants to do what she has never thought of before, and have a one night stand. Jessica not only doesn’t have the first idea about what really good sex is, or how to go about getting some. A one night stand with a hot, dreamy, exotic Zorro type is a nice thought, after the way her ex-husband put her down about her lack of sex appeal. When her car conveniently breaks down, she runs into her tall dark stranger, the wild one who caught her eye in the bar. Between the storm, a shared motel room, and hot sweaty fabulous sex, she has a night to remember. It could leave her with a hunger, one she may live to regret. It is not often two people click as she did with her stranger. But now he is gone, and she wants more. The questions, who is he, where is he, and does he? Of course for those who love paranormal adventures, Sylvia Day has the story of a familiar who is bucking the system, and the very handsome and dangerous warlock sent to bring her to heel. Aptly named, Alluring Tales ~ Awaken the Fantasy is a wonderful blend of well chosen stories from seven delightful and imaginative authors. The book has been carefully crafted, the stories all carry similar themes, and with very different tones. The Allure Ladies will thrill you with this anthology, for it is definitely a volume you will want to remain on your keeper shelf. Personally, I would recommend it to any and all who like that touch of danger, the shadow of darkness, and the lure forbidden thrills in your romances. It is not for the faint of heart, because the sex is steamy, the characters rich and vibrant, and it leaves you with the tingles which linger long after you put it down.
