Her eyes fastened on Salazar; Rae accepted Justin and Devon's help to stand up. She was still a little shaken, but knew what she had to do. She'd seen the memory of her mother and the warlock as it unfolded in Justin's mind. She held out her hand and shouted. "Shekalitu!" Seconds later, the crystal Justin had seen downstairs appeared in her hand. She smiled at him then walked to Salazar and stepped into the circle. She grabbed the hilt of the sword, pulled it from the vampire's body and tossed it aside. Salazar instantly rose. The properties in the sword's metal had slowly been leaching out his strength, for he had also dowsed it with the chemical he'd created. But due to his ancient age, with the sword no longer embedded in his stomach, his strength returned and he attacked. Justin and Devon cursed and ran forward, only to bounce off an invisible wall as Salazar wrapped his fingers around Rae's throat. Then they heard his terrified screams when his hands caught fire and he fell back against the invisible wall. Justin and Devon stood there, awed at the beautiful sight Rae made, with her face shining and her eyes glittering with stars. Just like her mother thought Justin but with much more power. The crystal rose and hovered in mid air as Rae stared at Salazar. "Vampire, you have chosen the black arts as your companion," she said softly. Salazar stared at her uncomprehending until her next words hit him. "For this I sentence you inside the Crystal of Souls, where you will suffer untold torment. Until such time that I or another crystal guardian deems your sentence fulfilled." "NOOOOO!" shouted Salazar as a thin stream of smoke emerged from the crystal, swirling and curling around the vampire. His screams grew fainter and fainter as the smoke grew thicker and completely enveloped him. When the smoke dissipated Salazar was no more. Justin slowly approached, his hand outstretched to feel the invisible wall, but it was no longer there. He was instantly at Rae's side, pulling her into his arms, holding her tight. Devon, too, stepped into the circle and winced at the power still present, but he didn't leave. Rae pulled away from Justin and smiling, she held out her hand. "There is one more task to complete," she said as Justin took her hand. She turned and held out her other hand to Devon. "Will you join us Devon? Help us?" Devon's eyebrow rose in surprise but he took her hand, too. Rae raised her eyes to the still hovering crystal and chanted. "Wabbetiku Shanarak, Lokabetaw Kataree!" The Crystal of Souls lit up, blinding them. Justin and Devon had to close their eyes the light was so bright. They felt their strength draining but each held on to Rae's hand for she seemed to be feeding them strength as well. Then the light dimmed and they opened their eyes to see white star shaped glows emerge from the crystal. There were hundreds of them, and each flew in different directions until only two were left. The two glows grew bigger and bigger until they could see a man and a woman. Devon didn't know who the couple was, but Justin knew, he'd seen them in Rae's memories. The couple stepped within the circle and approached Rae. "My darling daughter, you are more beautiful than I could ever have imagined," said the dark haired woman. "Thank you for freeing our souls and those whose sentence had been served." Rae smiled through the tears filling her eyes as she gazed at her parents. Her father stepped forward and glided his hand over her hair. "I always knew you would grow up to be more powerful than your mother," he said and kissed her cheek. Then he turned to Justin, "I am glad Raelynn has someone such as you, even if you are a vampire," he said chuckling. Then they both looked at Devon, "And you, next time don't go rushing after evil alone," they chastised him. Suddenly, a light so pure and warm shined through the window. "We must go now, daughter, we love you," they said. "And I love you," whispered Rae as Justin, Devon and she watched her parents step into the light and float up toward heaven. Rae let go of Devon's hand, palmed the crystal and burrowed against Justin's chest, sobbing quietly. Justin wrapped his arms around her and soothed her. "Shhhh, it's alright," he said as he gently rubbed her back and hair. "It's all over now, you did it. You destroyed Salazar and saved your parents. I'm very proud of you." Devon approached and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, "I'm proud of you, too. If it weren't for you, I'd be toast by now. I'm sure Salazar would have dragged my rotting corps into the sun and gloated as I became dust," he cheerfully said. Rae laughed and lifted her head. "Yeah, he would've done that," she said. "But I want to thank you both for lending me your power, I would never had been able to free all those souls along with my parents if you hadn't," she said. Devon would've blushed if he'd been human, but since he wasn't, he nervously shifted his weight from one foot to the other, lowered his eyes then cleared his throat. "Yeah…well…okay, you're welcome. Can we leave now?" he asked and started for the door. Justin let out a loud laugh and turned to Rae who was smiling widely. "Shall we, my dear?" he asked, but when he looked at her he couldn't resist and kissed her passionately. At the door Devon turned, sighed and shook his head when he saw the couple in each other's arms, their hands roaming over each other, kissing each other like there was no tomorrow. "Can't you wait until we get home to do that," he growled. "I want to get out of here. I may be a vampire, but this house gives me the creeps." Rae laughed and grabbed Justin's hand. "You're right, let's get out of this place," she said and sailed passed him, pulling Justin behind her. Outside, they joined George and Stanley. On his way out, Stanley had found George and helped him to get outside. There was a collective sigh of relief as they realized that they had just rid the world of a great source of evil, and though there were still others out there, for now at least they could rest with a little more peace. They all piled into Stanley's car and retuned to Knight Industries, no one looked back.
