Interview with Veronica Wilde::
Hi Veronica. Thank you for doing this interview. I would like to welcome you to the Romance at Heart Interview and Author Grilling session. *bg* We are interested to find out as much about you as we possibly can, so lets get started...
- Please tell us about your latest book.
That would be Halloween Hearts with StarDust Press. It’s a paranormal erotic romance centered largely around an old haunted house that gets turned into a restaurant. My heroine, Tara, attends a paranormal investigation at the house which leads to a forbidden but very erotic connection with the sexy new owner, Justin. She wants to stay faithful to her long-term boyfriend – but various forces both sexual and supernatural keep drawing her back to the house, its mysterious ghost, and the erotic temptation awaiting her there. Ultimately both Justin and the ghost have a few surprises in store for her.
- What can we expect from you in the future?
Quite a bit, actually. My sequel to Halloween Hearts comes out later in ’07. It’s called Haunted in Hawaii and is about a young perfumer who falls in love with a sexy anthropologist researching Hawaiian magic. When she is blamed for an insult to the goddess Pele, a cavalcade of island ghosts and gods descend upon her.
I also have another series coming out with StarDust Press called Spells of Seduction – it deals with the struggles of three witch sisters to find love amidst the usual adventures of coven rivalries and witch life. The first book, Second Time Around, is a reincarnation mystery involving a young witch who casts a love spell and as a result, meets two gorgeous brothers. Their love triangle is complicated by their realization that all three of them shared a past life in which both men were her lovers - a life in which one of them burned the other two at the stake as witches.
On the non-paranormal side, I have a book with Liquid Silver Books coming out called A Much Younger Man. It’s about a woman who loses her husband to a wealthy society blonde – then falls in love with her rival’s twenty-two-year-old son. It is very steamy!
- How do we find out about you and your books?
My website is the best way – you guessed it, www.veronicawilde.com.
- How may readers contact you?
Anyone is welcome to email me at veronicawilde@yahoo.com
- Do you have a favorite comment or question from a reader?
Not one single one but I love it when a reader tells me she has a crush on one of my characters!
- What are your thoughts on love scenes in romance novels, do you find them difficult to write?
Sometimes. I want my love and sex scenes to ring true, yet still evoke a fantasy. I get turned off reading a scene that seems totally unrealistic to me, so I try not to write that way.
- Please tell us about yourself (family, hobbies, education, etc.)
I live with my boyfriend and 3 cats. I also own my own copywriting business which keeps me very busy. My goal for 2007 is to streamline my life because right now I have way too many projects going on and way too many hobbies!
- Fill in the blank favorites -
Dessert - Chocolate chip cookies
City - Charles, SC
Season - Spring
Type of hero - Intelligent and passionate
Type of heroine - intelligent and passionate.
- What are some of your favorite things to do?
Read comic books, hike, watch Animal Planet, hang out with friends and unfortunately for my credit cards, shop.
- Who are some of your other favorite authors to read?
Angela Carter, Emma Holly, Erica Jong, Michael Chabon, Jean Genet, Tanith Lee, Neil Gaiman.
- How long have you been writing - have you always wanted to be a writer?
I knew I was a writer when I was 4. But I didn’t write my first book until I was 13. It was all about my first boyfriend, of course.
- Which comes first, the story, the characters or the setting?
The characters, always. I let them tell me their stories and settings.
- What are the elements of a great romance for you?
Passion and struggle. I think we appreciate relationships more when we have to work for them – in fiction and in real life. And to me, chemistry is what makes or breaks a romance. I have to feel it between the characters or I lose interest.
- Are you in control of your characters or do they control you?
Well, I wouldn’t say they control ME but they do control the book. Absolutely. Any control I have is an illusion.
- What is the most rewarding thing about being a writer?
The power to create and dwell in your own private universe.
- Are there any words of encouragement for unpublished writers?
Remember that writing is an art but publishing is a business. If you can separate the two, you’ll take rejection less personally and appreciate your writing for the personal joy it brings you.
Thank you very much for taking the time with us and answering our questions. I really appreciate this interruption to your busy schedule. Good Luck, and we will be looking forward to the next delightful creation from your talented imagination!
Yours in good reading,
Rose!
