Interview with Regan Taylor:

Hi Regan. I know you wear a lot of hats including that of promotions Coordinator at Whickey Creek Press, so thank you for doing this interview. I would like to welcome you to the Romance at Heart Interview and Author Grilling session. *bg* We are interested to find out as much about you as we possibly can, so lets get started...

- Please tell us about your latest book.

– Hi! I just released Miranda’s Heart with eXtasy Books. It is the story of Jason Dumont of Martan and Miranda of Eadron. When she is captured and sold into slavery, Jason buys her and soon finds that he wants more than just her body. Actually, to read an absolutely brilliant summary of the story, check out Rose’s review!

- What can we expect from you in the future?

In December I have The True Story of the Wicked Witch coming out with Whiskey Creek Press Torrid and in February Spell Across Time: The Pentacle is coming out in Whiskey Creek’s general line. I have two other series that are looking for another home—Treasures Antique Store: The Photograph and Indentured Bride. I also just finished the first draft of Traveling Bride which is Book 4 of the Bride series…yes, I did book 4 before books 2 and 3 because Rick, from Book 1 was just so demanding of his story.

- How may readers contact you?

You can write me at Regan@regantaylor.com or visit me at MySpace

- Do your fans' comments and letters influence you in any way?

Definitely! You can write as much as you want, but if you aren’t writing what someone wants to read who’s going to read it. Did that make sense? Also, at least one of my cats or a friend appears in each of my books…generally a cameo appearance. Almost all of them have asked for an appearance in a book and one friend even came to me and demanded to be a character. Actually THAT was kind of funny. I used to work for the local police department and one of the officers I used to work with saw me at a store and in front of all these other customers….while in uniform….yelled at me “I want to talk to you.” Heads turned and were quite curious as she approached and hugged me. A quick hello and she said “You have EVERYONE in your books but me, I want to be a character and I even have a name for you to call her and all kinds of things for her to do.” You will see Kendra make an appearance in book 5 of the Bride Series.

- When did you first think about writing and what prompted you to submit your first ms?

That all lies with Jewel Adams! Talk about a gracious and gifted lady! I was interviewing Jewel for a review/interview package at Love Romances and she invited me to join her list at a time she was doing one of her famous “kick butt weeks”. I figured what the heck and with her encouragement I wrote Spell Across Time: The Pentacle. She is a marvelous mentor for a beginning writer. Her own work, especially her time travels, although her gothics are a close second, is outstanding. Meeting her was a true gift.

- Do you have a set schedule for writing or do you just go with the flow?

My commitment to myself is 1,000 words a day. I come home from the “day” job, spend some time with the furfaced children, commonly called cats – I have two senior girls who are on sub-q fluids for kidney disease so it takes about 30-45 minutes to groom the three of them, give them their meds and fluids and then I need to distance myself from my day to day life so I write for about a half hour or to 1,000 words.

- What do you do to relax and recharge your batteries?

I write and spend time with my friends. I hang out with a group from the police department, we’re called the 5 B’s or the BBBBB…we laugh, have adult beverages and share stories about the drama in our lives. You can see some of the B’s on my website.

- Where do your ideas come from?

I dream them. In fact, all but The True Story of the Wicked Witch and the last oh, twenty pages or so of Miranda’s Heart have been dreamed.

- After you've written your book and it's been published, do you ever buy it and/or read it?

You know, this is a great question. When I did my last read on Miranda’s Heart before it was released I had one of those poignant moments when you know you are doing something for the last time. Like when you know it is the last time you are going to see a good friend. I may read it again, but I can’t move or change anything about it anymore. It’s done, it’s found it’s wings and now I have to let it go. It was a crystallizing moment when I finished that last read because I saw some truths about myself. I like the process…I don’t like the letting go and I really feel that focusing on ghost writing is where I am happier.

- What is the hardest part of writing/the easiest for you?

Easiest is starting a new book

Hardest is finishing that final read

- Are you in control of your characters or do they control you?

Oh they so control. Rick in Traveling Bride was just a total pain. It was always “I need my story, I need my story.” Believe me, it felt REALLY good when Sami finds out what he’s been up to and comes back to the future leaving him there to deal with his deceit!

Thank you for the time to answer your questions and for your kind words about Miranda’s Heart! It has been a pleasure!

Thank you very much for taking the time with us and answering our questions. I really appreciate this interruption to your busy schedule. Good Luck, and we will be looking forward to the next delightful creations from your talented imagination and Whiskey Creek Press!

Yours in good reading,
Rose!
