Interview with Isabelle Rose:

Hi Isabelle. Thank you for doing this interview. I would like to welcome you to the Romance at Heart Interview and Author Grilling session. *bg* We are interested to find out as much about you as we possibly can, so lets get started...

- Please tell us about your latest book.

`NAUGHTY FAIRY TALES VOLUME 1' is a collection of rewritten erotic fairy tales.

This book will be out sometime soon, so be on the look out. I'm so excited about this little series. I've been working on it for a few years now, so I'm really glad that you will all have a chance to read my work.
Here’s the blurb for NAUGHTY FAIRY TALES VOLUME 1:

Have you ever wondered... ...what happened to Alice after she came out of the rabbit hole? Ten years have gone by since that innocent, accidental venture. But Alice couldn't resist meeting old friends again. Will she finally catch the White Rabbit this time around? What of her friendship with the Cheshire Cat? As for Queen Scarlett of Hearts, she is after Alice as well and will stop at nothing until Alice is hers. Alice seems to be in more trouble than she ever was.

...what would happen should Snow White find shelter in a house with seven handsome men, after running away from a stepmother intent on killing her? She strikes a deal with them, in exchange for their silence. Seven men, seven days a week, a girl couldn't find herself in more delicious situations than this!

...what happened to Emma after she was gifted with the ability to produce a flower or precious jewel every time she speaks? When her mother drove her out of the house because of it, was the gift still a thing to be treasured or has it turned into a curse?

Bedtime just got more exciting!

- What can we expect from you in the future?

Definitely, Volume 2 of the NAUGHTY FAIRY TALES series. I already started working on volume 3. I picked out six different fairy tales to rewrite but I’m not sure which ones will make it into volume 3 until I’m done writing. I have an erotic fantasy novel in the works I have most of it outlined, and a erotic novel about the Greek god Apollo and how he falls in love with Daphne.

- How do we find out about you and your books?

- Generally, how long does it take you to write a book?

It depends on how many ideas I have. In some instances the story is already written in my head and all I have to do is put it on paper. And that can take a few months. But when I come up with a great character and if he/she has a really strong personality, sometimes the character tells me where they want the story to go. And I can write five chapters in two weeks or I can go without writing a single word for a whole month. So it really depends on the character and the story I want to tell.

- Do you have a set schedule for writing or do you just go with the flow?

It’s a little bit of both. I write more at night, because that’s when everything around me is quiet. Then I go with the flow with everything else. I let my imagination take over. If I have to think about something too much then it’s not right. When my hands take over and that’s when I know I’m working on something amazing.

- What is your writing routine once you start a book?

I write as much as possible without thinking. Even if I’m writing something that isn’t particularly good, I still write it. Because you never know when a good idea will pop up. I still have stuff that I wrote when I was 18. Some of it was horrible…and some of it was good enough that I could just rewrite it.

- What do you do to relax and recharge your batteries?

I take long showers. I don’t know what it is about water but it helps me relax and once that happens I come up with great ideas.

- What truly motivates you in general? In your writing?

Life motivates me to write. Things people say. Certain looks that I want to describe in a scene with a particular character. Everything motivates me to create.

Everyone, everything, anything. Paintings, songs, things people say, shapes in clouds, my dreams, a sentence in a book…life inspires me to write.

- Where do your ideas come from?

Most of the time it’s from dreams. Other times I’ll watch a music video on TV and a certain part will spark an idea for a story. I need visual inspiration in order for me to start writing something new.

- What are your thoughts on love scenes in romance novels, do you find them difficult to write?

Sometimes yes, I find love scenes a little difficult to write. It’s hard to arouse another person with something that turns me on. I always try to be creative with love scenes. I don’t want to have cut and paste love scenes. I don’t want to do the same thing every time with a character. I want the reader to want to turn the next page every single time.

- What kind of research do you do?

I read other erotica books and find what works and learn from that. If you’re interested in the erotica genre then I recommend How to Write a Dirty Story by Susie Bright. Another book I used was The Straight Girl’s Guide to Sleeping with Chicks by Jen Sincero, I used it mostly for the lesbian scenes in my book Naughty Fairy Tales. It was quite invaluable. I also have my sex techniques and sex position book close by. That always comes in handy.

- What does your husband think of your writing?

My husband loves it.

- Do you ever ask him/her for advice?

All the time. He helped come up with part of the plot for my Snow White story.

- Please tell us about yourself (family, hobbies, education, etc.)

I love to read (naturally). I love bookstores. I think that’s the second best place in the world to be. I love being home though. I have everything that I love right here. I’m an amateur photographer. I may post some of my personal favorites in my blog when I get a chance.

I write just about everything you can think of, poetry, fantasy novels, erotica, regular fiction and short stories.

- What are some of your favorite things to do?

Being a smartass. I’m just kidding, I love to read books that there’s only one copy of in a bookstore. Taking pictures of things only I can see (that way I can show them off to people that didn’t notice).

- Do you have a favorite author? Favorite book?

My favorite author is Terry Moore, he’s the artist/author/creator of Strangers In Paradise.
My favorite book? Grimm’s Fairy Tales.

- Who are some of your other favorite authors to read?

Terry Moore, Gregory Maguire, Melody Carlson, Karen Armstrong, Kerri Hawkins, Laurel K. Hamilton and Audrey Niffenegger, just to name a few.

- Who, if anyone, has influenced your writing?

Terry Moore and Langston Hughes were great influences in my writing.

- Where do you see yourself in five years?

Still writing, only I’ll have crazy little kids running around.

- How long have you been writing - have you always wanted to be a writer?

I’ve been writing my whole life. I wanted to be a writer when I saw my mother typing away in her typewriter, working on her novel. She never did anything with it. I always promised myself that if I ever wrote a book that I would do everything in my power to get it published, and I did.

- What book for you has been the easiest to write? The hardest? The most fun?

There’s no such thing as an easy book to write. Every character demands attention. Every scene needs detail. Every plot and situation needs to be thought out. So nothing about writing is really easy when you stop and think about it, because you are essentially creating something out of nothing.

Hardest thing:

I hate it when I get stuck. It’s always hard for me whenever I can’t go to the next scene with a character. When I want something to flow seamlessly, that’s when things tend to fall apart for me.

Most fun:

Rewriting fairy tales is the most fun I’ve ever had writing. I’m taking these ‘princesses’ and making them do all sorts of naughty stuff. All that equals to is loads of fun.

- Which comes first, the story, the characters or the setting?

I start with the plot, then the character and then the setting. You can’t really do much without a plot. You can have the most awesome character ever, but without a plot he/she is just standing on a page tapping his/her foot. That’s not really interesting if you ask me. I start by writing a paragraph describing something my character is doing and if I like what I see then I keep going. If not I try something else until it works. If it doesn’t work then the story was never meant to be told.

- Are you in control of your characters or do they control you?

My characters are totally in control, every once in a while I’ll push them in a certain direction and all I can do is hope that they go along with me.

- Have you experienced writer's block---> If so, how did you work through it?

All the time! Gosh, I’d like to meet a writer that has never gone through writer’s block. What I do is move on to the next chapter and keep writing. Then I’ll go back to that particular part in the story and try to figure out what to do next. I usually find a way to make things work.

- What is the most rewarding thing about being a writer?

Finding people that enjoy my work. Because those are the people that I write for.

- Are there any words of encouragement for unpublished writers?

DON’T STOP WRITING. No matter how many rejection letters you get or how hopeless it seems at that particular moment, someone out there is going to say ‘Yes!’ to your work.

- What question would you love to answer that I didn't ask?

- What kind of books do you love/hate to write? Why?

I would hate to write something I have no passion for. That’s probably when the joy of writing would turn into something like a day job. My writing is a way of releasing my imagination and my creativity.

I love to write books that excite the mind, that make you think, that seduce, and that make you laugh or even cry. I want to create fiction that inspires you to do something great with your life.

Thank you very much for taking the time with us and answering our questions. I really appreciate this interruption to your busy schedule. Good Luck, and we will be looking forward to the next delightful creation from your talented imagination!

Yours in good reading,
Rose!
