Interview with Fenella Jane Miller:
Hi Fenella Jane. Thank you for doing this interview. I would like to welcome you to the Romance at Heart Interview and Author Grilling session. *bg* We are interested to find out as much about you as we possibly can, so lets get started...
- Please tell us about your latest book.
My latest book is a Regency romantic adventure called A Suitable Husband. It opens in the home counties of England and finishes in Kent.
- What can we expect from you in the future?
I have a third Regency romance due to be published in August 2006, called A Dissembler. This is set in Essex, in the area that I live, so hopefully local people might like to read it.
- How do we find out about you and your books?
I have a website, www.fenellajanemiller.co.uk, and my books are listed on Amazon both here and in U. S. A.
- How may readers contact you?
There is a contact email address on my website.
- How many readers/fans contact you?
Not many – but my first book, The Unconventional Miss Walters, only came out in October 2005. But I have had excellent reviews of this first book which are on my website.
- Why did you decide to write romance novels?
I have always read Historical Romance from choice so it seemed sensible to write what I read.
- When did you first think about writing and what prompted you to submit your first ms?
I have been writing since I was in my twenties but for myself and all modern romances. It had been my dream to be published by the time I was sixty and I sold my first two romance two weeks before that date. It was joining the Romantic Novelist Association that prompted me to try my luck with Robert Hale; several members are part of John Hale's team.
- Generally, how long does it take you to write a book?
It takes me about a month for thinking and research and two to three months to complete the book.
- Do you have a set schedule for writing or do you just go with the flow?
I write everyday, usually between 5am and 10 a.m., in long hand, and then read it onto the PC in the afternoons.
- What are your thoughts on love scenes in romance novels, do you find them difficult to write?
It wouldn't be a romance without love scenes but I don't write explicit sex but there is plenty of sexual tension between the hero and heroine.
- What does your husband think of your writing?
My husband is my proof-reader and business partner and he is totally supportive.
- Please tell us about yourself (family, hobbies, education, etc.)
I was a teacher for 25 years teaching both secondary and primary age groups. I have two adult children, both married, and two grandchildren. My hobbies are reading and writing- but I do enjoy the garden and my Yoga and Pilates sessions.
- Are you a member of any author groups - RWA, critique groups, etc.?
I am a member of the RNA.
- How many books have you written, how many have been published?
I have written about five modern romances, none of which have been sent to a publisher. I have also written six Regency romances, three full length and three novellas. Two full length are published, a third due out in August and two of the novellas are sold. One is due out in December 2006 the other next year and I am waiting to hear from the publisher about the third.
- After you've written your book and it's been published, do you ever buy it and/or read it?
I don't have to buy it- authors get six free copies. But, yes, I do read them. I'm delighted to say that I enjoyed both of them!!
- Among your own books, have you a favorite book? Favorite hero or heroine?
My first, The Unconventional Miss Walters, will always be my favourite as it was the first one to be published.
If you write you are a writer; being published is a bonus. Write every day and don't be disheartened by rejection- some of the most popular writers today had to write sometimes as many as fourteen books before finally getting one accepted. Join an organization- the other members will be a support and help to you.
Thank you very much for taking the time with us and answering our questions. I really appreciate this interruption to your busy schedule. Good Luck, and we will be looking forward to the next delightful creation from your talented imagination!
Yours in good reading,
Rose!
