Interview with Debbie Wallace:

Hi Debbie. Thank you for doing this interview. I would like to welcome you to the Romance at Heart Interview and Author Grilling session. *bg* We are interested to find out as much about you and your books as we possibly can. We love to hear about author's likes, dislikes and pet beeves too, so lets get started...

- Please tell us about your latest book.

“WICKED DESIRE” will be released October 15, 2008 by Whiskey Creek Press Torrid. My second erotic romance, it takes place in a little fictitious town in Maine on China Lake. Dear to my heart because that’s where I’m fromJ The story is about two people returning home to rebuild their lives. One, a woman running away from a rotten eight year marriage and her stalking ex. And Matt, a moody, much too serious sheriff convinced his late wife was the only woman for him. That is, until he meets fun spirited curvaceous Maggie Myers.

- How do we find out about you and your books?

- Why did you decide to write romance novels?

From as long as I can remember I’ve loved fairytales where the princess always finds her prince. I felt the same thing should apply in real life and believe that everyone has a soul mate out there, somewhere. At least they will in my novels.

- How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?

Bits and pieces in all my books but only I know what they are. I think every author weaves their stories around their own personal experiences. I enjoy romances laced with humor, suspense and steamy sex. Any humor in my stories is pure me coming through. I confess, the heroine’s sassy remark to the hero is probably how I would reply in the same situation. Being an animal lover you’re apt to find a pesky mynah bird or frisky cat in my stories, too.

- When did you first think about writing and what prompted you to submit your first ms?

Since before there were computers or even word processes. I can remember writing short stories on note book paper until I received my first type writer at the age of thirteen. A manual

I kept my writing a secret until late in life, due to the fact my parents laughed at me when I told them what I wanted to be when I grew up. I don’t think they realized I was serious. Their response crushed me so I became a closet writer. Later, I shared my dream with my daughter and niece and after reading some of my stuff they convinced me to submit. Whiskey Creek Press offered me a contract on that first manuscript and I was thrilled. “CUPID’S ARROW” was on their best sellers list for two consecutive months!

- Do you have a set schedule for writing or do you just go with the flow?

Go with the flow! I’m not very disciplined when it comes to setting a schedule for writing. I can’t force myself to write, which is probably the worst thing a writer can do anyway. My opinionJ I definitely have to be in the mood.

- What are your thoughts on love scenes in romance novels, do you find them difficult to write?

Not really. But they can be very draining. Once I start a hot love scene I won’t stop until it’s done. Sometimes that can take up a whole chapter. The more you write, the more you get into it and the more the scene flows naturally. It’s hard to just stop and take up where you left off later. The mood is lost if you know what I mean. Then it’s hard to get it back where it was.

- What kind of research do you do?

Absolutely none! I hate it. I don’t have time for it. I write about places and things I know and make up the rest. Okay, I admit I do have one book I use once in a while, The Romance Phrase Book.

- Would you like to write a different genre than you do now, or sub-genre?

Yes! I would love to write a vampire romance. And I do have a historical done, though it needs serious revision. It’s years old, so old the paper is yellow now. I’ll tackle that one day.

- Please tell us about yourself (family, hobbies, education, etc.)

Family comes first for me. I have a small family and we’re all very close. Spend as much time together as we can, especially my daughter, me and my little granddaughter.
Hobbies, I collect art and antiques and love to travel anywhere a cruise ship will take me.
Education, I hated school! But I do recall winning a school spelling bee in the 6th grade. I was good in language.

- Do you have a favorite author? Favorite book?

I love Kathleen E. Woodiwiss and “The Wolf and the Dove” is my favorite. The world lost a great author when she passed away.

- Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years I’ll have two years left before I can retire from my real job. I’m pretty practical. Starting late in life I’ll probably never be one of those authors who can retire off my writing. But I’d like to be making enough mad money off my books to travel and spend it on my grandchildren.

- How long have you been writing - have you always wanted to be a writer?

Too long to recall the exact age but I know it was before ten. And yes! It seems I’ve always wanted to be a writer. I can’t remember wanting to be anything else.

- After you've written your book and it's been published, do you ever buy it and/or read it?

Of Course! *grin*

- What book for you has been the easiest to write? The hardest? The most fun?

“CUPID’S ARROW” was the easiest to write. It’s a sweet romance filled with humor and sexual tension between a sexy small town detective and pretty divorcee.
The hardest was “SOMEONE TO LOVE ME” because other than the very end of the book, the whole story only has two characters in it, the hero and heroine. They start out as strangers stranded in a cabin in the Alaskan wilderness. Plenty of heat and sex to, ah, keep warm.
And the most fun? That would have to be “IT’S ALL IN THE JEANS” by my alias Tory Richards. My first erotic romance and it’s filled with humor, sexual tension and hot sex. It has a unique plot that one reviewer said they’d never seen before and if you like sexy fire fighters then this one’s for you!

- What are the elements of a great romance for you?

Humor, suspense and hot sex. I like the build up between the hero and heroine, too. Like to see their relationship grow from not knowing each other into love. The conflict that threatens to keep them apart and, did I say sex?

- Are there any words of encouragement for unpublished writers?

DON’T GIVE UP and expect rejection. But one thing I do know, if you believe in yourself someone else will too. You just have to find themJ

Thank you very much for taking the time with us and answering our questions. I really appreciate this interruption to your busy schedule. Good Luck, and we will be looking forward to the next delightful creation from your talented imagination!

Yours in good reading,
Rose!
