Interview with Author Dana Littlejohn:

Hi Dana. Thank you for doing this interview. I would like to welcome you to the Romance at Heart Interview and Author Grilling session. *bg* We are interested to find out as much about you as we possibly can, so lets get started...

- Please tell us about your latest book.

I have a fantasy coming December 4th called, The God’s Silver Connection (it’s a story about to humans who are caught in the line of fire when the gods Loki and Thor are fighting for the amulet of Tyr, the god of War) and a Christmas story (about a woman who was dumped at Christmas time but got the perfect gift to get over it) coming December 15th called Christmas with Holly, both at Red Rose Publishing.

- What can we expect from you in the future?

I have several books coming in 2009. At Red Rose™ Publishing, The Last MacPhee in January. At Phaze, The Wrong Valentine, in February. At Whiskey Creek Press-Torrid, Torrid Teasers, Sekmet’s Awakening and Kibuka’s Moon in February, The House in March and Behind the Wings in May.

- How do we find out about you and your books?

I have links to all of my current books on my website and always make announcements on my yahoo group.

- How may readers/fans contact you?

I have a calendar on my website that lets everyone know where they can find me and they can always email me at authordanalittlejohn@gmail.com

- Why did you decide to write romance novels?

I love ‘love’. I love the way it feels when you finish reading a romance and everything is all wrapped up and the good guys win in the end and there’s a happily ever after. I wanted to be apart of that.

Hot Chocolate on a Cold Day- How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?

I work really hard to keep me and my husband out of my nooks...that would just warp my kids. LOL

- Generally, how long does it take you to write a book?

If I had the time I could do a short story in 2 weeks and a novella in a month, but I never have that kind of time so it takes me longer.

- Do you have a set schedule for writing or do you just go with the flow?

I definitely go with the flow, but I don’t put my pen down until I get to a point where I can walk away and come right back to that spot without guessing what has already happened.

- What do you do to relax and recharge your batteries?

I take bubble baths with a chilled glass of wine and read historical romances.

- Where do your ideas come from?

Most of the time people just give me a theme and a story comes to mind.

- What are your thoughts on love scenes in romance novels, do you find them difficult to write?

Not at all, what I do find difficult is to make all of the leading men as different as real men are in bed. It would suck if all of your leading men had sex the same way...almost as bad as if it happened in real life.

- What does your husband think of your writing?

He thinks it’s the coolest thing, but he complains that I write too fast and he can’t keep up. There are many stories he has not read yet.

- Do you ever ask him for advice?

Only on male cognitive stuff, men are to irrational to make that stuff up.

The Sun Rose Over Cairo- Fill in the blank favorites –

Dessert: strawberries in chocolate
City: St. Louis
Season: summer
Type of hero: strong, sensitive, hot
Type of heroine: strong, dominant, sexy

- What are some of your favorite things to do?

I’m an arts and crafts girl. I like to crochet, needle point, make decorations for the house and cook.

- Do you have a favorite author? Favorite book?

I absolutely love Bertice Small and Jackie Collins. To love again is my favorite by Bertrice Small and the Lucky Santangelo series is my favorite by Jackie Collins.

- Who are some of your other favorite authors to read?

I like some of Omar Tyree’s stuff and a few of Zane’s.

- What do you think of critique groups in general?

I think they are cool. I have two people that I let read my stuff before I submit it, one for each genre that I write, just to have a second pair of eyes on it. They catch simple mistakes that you would over look looking at it for so long and let you know if it flows well.

- Where do you see yourself in five years?

I can see myself at a major publishing house with a full length novel. It can happen.

- How long have you been writing - have you always wanted to be a writer?

I have been writing since I was in junior high school and yes, I have always wanted to be a writer.

- How many books have you written, how many have been published?

I have written 3 full length novels, 3 novellas and 21 short stories. So far 19 of them have homes and the rest are submitted or in final edits to be submitted.

- Are you in control of your characters or do they control you?

I am a slave to my characters. They speak and I write. LOL

- Are there any words of encouragement for unpublished writers?

Keep submitting! The ‘no’ you receive is just one person’s opinion.

Thank you very much for taking the time with us and answering our questions. I really appreciate this interruption to your busy schedule. Good Luck, and we will be looking forward to the next delightful creation from your talented imagination!

Yours in good reading,
Rose!
