Interview with Christine Feehan:
Hi Christine. It is a real pleasure and an honor to have you doing this interview. I would like to welcome you to the Romance at Heart Interview and Author Grilling session. *bg* We are interested to find out as much about you and your fertile imagination as we possibly can, so lets get started...
- Please tell us about your latest book.
Night Game. is a story about tremendous courage. One of my sisters has battled breast cancer for years. She’s very athletic and courageous, a true heroine and over the years with the surgeries and chemo treatments she has always been so brave and determined to live every moment of her life. More and more my mind was turning to write a tribute book, not only to her, but to so many other women who battle this disease every day so heroically. One of the things we often talked about was how a woman felt sexually and romantically toward her partner. Gator, my hero is a tribute to the men who live day in and day out loving their women and doing whatever it takes to keep her going. He’s a special hero to me and this couple was pure magic to write about.
My sister’s daughter, Jessica, played the role of Flame in the trailer and that was important to me as well. I wanted her to be able to look back someday and know she was playing the role of her mother as I see her. I loved the chemistry between these characters and the courage both displayed in the choices they made. I certainly hope everyone enjoys Night Game.
- What can we expect from you in the future?
Just about anything! I have so many story ideas waiting for their turn. Next year I will have Dark Demon, Dangerous Tides, Conspiracy Game and a special Dark Celebration—a reunion Christmas book! I’m extremely excited about the Christmas book and am holding a contest where readers can enter their recipe for dark desserts. See my website for details! Christine's Site, Click Here
- How may readers contact you?
Readers can write to me at Christine@christinefeehan.com
- How many readers contact you?
I receive an average of two to three thousand email letters from readers per week along with anywhere from 60 to 100 snail mail letters.
- Do your fans' comments and letters influence you in any way?
I love to hear from readers, but no, they don’t influence my writing. I don’t work that way. I hear the stories told by the characters and can’t write anything but what the characters want me to write.
- Why did you decide to write romance novels?
If I watch a movie or read a book and I love the characters, I want there to be at least a small romance or I’m not satisfied. I wanted to do action/thriller/fantasy/romance!
- How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?
Probably more than there should be!
- When did you first think about writing and what prompted you to submit your first ms?
I’ve been writing since I was a child, every single day and my friend Kathi who fell in love with the Carpathian series insisted I send a book in and much to my astonishment, it sold.
- Generally, how long does it take you to write a book?
About four months for me.
- What is your writing routine?
I write every single day, usually eight to ten hours. I’m very regimented.
- Do you have a set schedule for writing or do you just go with the flow?
I start around seven-thirty or eight in the morning and write until ten-thirty, walk on the treadmill and write until about twelve-thirty. Start around one and write until four or five whenever CC gets home and then visit with her. After dinner I write until midnight unless we watch a movie together or she wants help with her homework.
- What about your family, do they know not to bother you when you are writing - or are there constant interruptions?
Definitely constant interruptions—unless I am in the middle of a love scene or edits and then no one comes in!
- Do you feel humour is important in women's fiction and why?
Humor is very important in women’s fiction particularly in dealing with any women’s issues. We use humor to deal with it in our every day lives and need it in our reading as well.
- What kind of research do you do?
I especially love researching for the game series. All those up to the minute latest weapons and experiments! It’s tough sometimes to understand but I’m very lucky to have a couple of genius’ who explain it all (several times) to me when I can’t understand!
- Would you like to write a different genre than you do now, or sub-genre?
I write such crossover now, I think I mix genres. I do everything from murder and mayhem to action. If a story came to me that wanted to be written, I’d write it whether or not there was a market for it!
- Among your own books, have you a favorite book? Favorite hero or heroine?
I always say I love the book I’m working on and it’s true—but Night Game probably my favorite for many reasons—the characters—the adventure—chemistry and of course subject matter.
- What book for you has been the easiest to write? The hardest? The most fun?
Easiest to write was Dark Demon. The hardest was Dangerous Tides and the most fun was Night Game.
Thank you very much Christine for taking the time with us and answering our questions. I really appreciate this interruption to your busy schedule. I know that you are eternally mired in edits and giving vent to the myriad of wonderful characters we have all grown to know and love. Good Luck, and we will be looking forward to the next delightful creations from your talented imagination! Night Game will be out before we know it...
Yours in good reading,
Rose!
