Interview with Carolyn Russell:

Carolyn, I am so glad that you could take the time to answers a few questions, and let is get to know you better. I know what is like, with jobs, home, and publishing deadlines, so it makes the time you took even more special.

- Please tell us about your latest book.

Beyond The Lies is actually my first book. A women’s fiction, Beyond The Lies covers a span of 35-40 years, tracing Gloria Hamilton’s search for truth and her true identity. At every turn, she is lied to by the most important people in her life: her parents, first love, husband, and finally her biological mother, whose lie is the cruelest of all. By the time, true love comes into her life, Gloria’s trust levels are nonexistent, so the question is: can she learn to trust again? Will true love win her over?

- What can we expect from you in the future?

Hole In Her Heart has been picked up by Publish America for release in 2004—no date has been set as yet.

- How do we find out about you and your books?

Visit my web site @ carolynrussellbks.com or the publisher of Beyond The Lies www.wings-press.com

- How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?

The experts tell you to write what you know. I put a lot of myself in my writing. The trick for the reader is to decide what part of the story is me and what is not. Bear in mind, I write FICTION.

- What do you do to relax and recharge your batteries?

I’m a huge movie fan and I love mysteries. So, I go to the movies and read a lot. I also play tennis and travel.

- Do you feel humour is important in women's fiction and why?

Absolutely, but not just in women’s fiction. Humor is a necessity of life. I’m always wary of folks who exhibit no sense of humor.

- Would you like to write a different genre than you do now, or sub-genre?

Currently, I’m working on a para-normal romance, but I’d really like to write a mystery.

- Do you have a favorite author? Favorite book?

Pat Conroy. THE PRINCE OF TIDES.

- Who are some of your favorite authors?

Well, Conroy is number one, but his books are few and far between, so while I’m waiting for his next one, I read John Sandford, James Patterson, John Grisham, Alexander McCall Smith, William Kent Krueger, Lois Battle, Sandra Brown, Dan Brown, and Nelson DeMille. For a quick read, I pick up M. C. Beaton’s Hamish mysteries, Lilian Jackson Braun’s “Cat” series, and Diane Mott Davidson’s “Goldilocks” mysteries. I could go on, but space is limited.

- How long have you been writing - have you always wanted to be a writer?

It’s always been my choice of communication. As a young girl, I wanted to be an actress, then a writer.

- How many books have you written, how many have been published?

Four. One has been published. A second has been picked up and will be released in 2004.

- Among your own books, have you a favorite book? Favorite hero or heroine?

Yes, but it hasn’t been published yet and I’m superstitious about talking about unpublished material.

- If you weren't writing, what would you be doing?

I can’t imagine!

- Any words of encouragement for unpublished writers?

Don’t give up. I’ve been at this a long time. I have a mountain of rejection slips from some of the best in the business. Even knowing that rejections are personal, they make a mark. Whenever I get a rejection, I make it a point to send a query or submit something within the next few days. Hope is the key. I like the idea of having something out there because that just may be the one that’s picked up.

- What question would you love to answer that I didn't ask?

If I could invite “x” of writers, living or dead, to join me for dinner, who would I ask?

Thank you again Carolyn, for taking the time with us and answering our questions. I really appreciate this interruption to busy schedule. Good Luck, and we will be looking forward to the next delightful creation from your talented imagination!

Yours in good reading,
Rose!
