Interview with Author Brigit Zahara:
Hi Brigit. Thank you for doing this interview. I would like to welcome you to the Romance at Heart Interview and Author Grilling session. *bg* We are interested to find out as much about you as we possibly can, so lets get started...
- Please tell us about your latest book.
My very first historical, THE TURNING, takes the reader on a bit of a time travel.
While it starts in present day, the story quickly flashes back to ancient ROME where the heroine DARIA is the Caesar’s Daughter and ultimately caught between her love for CASSIAN – one of the country’s greatest gladiators — and ATTICUS, her faithful night chamber guard, a former gladiator champion himself and unbeknownst to her, a vampire. Combining the best of all epic sagas — love, suspense, gallantry and adventure— THE TURNING also includes the vivid and intense love scenes that fans have come to associate with my work.
It is being released on MARCH 30.
- What can we expect from you in the future?
My next release is also a bit of departure. ENCHANTED PALETTE is the story of Miranda (Randi) a grieving artist who is magically transported into the painting she currently works on. There she encounters ancient artists and fraternal twins Zak and Adrian—half vampire, half shape shifter polar opposites who were locked inside their own creation centuries earlier by an embittered sorcereress. A tale of love, loss and starting over, ENCHANTED PALETTE is filled with hope for those who no longer believe in happily ever afters.
It, too, will be released this spring.
Last but not least, I will be venturing into the increasingly popular M/M genre. I have a number of story ideas and can’t wait to get my fingers working on those.
-
- How do we find out about you and your books?
http://brigitzahara.weebly.com/
- How may readers contact you?
- Do your fans' comments and letters influence you in any way?
Potentially, sure. For example, one of my stories, CATCH OF THE DAY, has received a lot of fan mail requesting a sequel. Therefore, I plan to fit that in sometime this year.
- Do you have a favorite comment or question from a reader?
You know, I get so many letters and emails saying how much people enjoy my stories, how hot they find the love scenes, how they feel good afterward, etc. that no one comment stands out but I must say, I REALLY appreciate people taking the time in this busy day and age to express appreciation for my work. It truly means a lot.
- Why did you decide to write romance novels?
I always wrote little stories and segments from the time I was a teenager but after I left my former job, I started working on it full-time.
- How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?
LOL. Oh, they’re ALL fact-based!! No, seriously, I think like all writers, there are elements of my personality, hopes and dreams in each one of my characters and plot lines but certainly, the vast majority of it is just dreamed up.
- Generally, how long does it take you to write a book?
I generally write a quickie manuscript (10,000-ish) within 1-2 weeks.
- Do you have a set schedule for writing or do you just go with the flow?
Mostly go with the flow but I try to establish a set time within that flow. Right now, I am writing in the mornings and evenings.
- What about your family, do they know not to bother you when you are writing - or are there constant interruptions?
No, hubby leaves me to it. Thanks Hon.
- What do you do to relax and recharge your batteries?
Walk the dogs on the beach.
- What truly motivates you in general? In your writing?
Music, nature, love, spirituality, peace.
- Where do your ideas come from?
The beyond.
- Do you feel humour is important in women's fiction and why?
It depends on the book and subject matter. I don’t think humour would be very good in a novel like, for example, PRECIOUS. But it has it place, depending on the characters and storyline.
- What are your thoughts on love scenes in romance novels, do you find them difficult to write?
Not at all.
- What kind of research do you do?
On the love scenes? LOL. Just ask my husband!
- Would you like to write a different genre than you do now, or sub-genre?
Yes, I may venture off and try a few here and there as indicated above, but I will also continue creating those stories and styles that my fans enjoy.
- What does your husband think of your writing?
He loves it. He’s very supportive.
- Where do you see yourself in five years?
I don’t look that far ahead. I guess I’ll be where I’m supposed to be.
- How many books have you written, how many have been published?
I presently have 10 books published with two due out for release within the next couple of months.
- After you've written your book and it's been published, do you ever buy it and/or read it?
No.
- Are you in control of your characters or do they control you?
At first I am in control but at some point, they take over.
- Have you experienced writer's block---> If so, how did you work through it?
For sure. I just started a different story or skipped to another part of the one I am working on.
- What is the most rewarding thing about being a writer?
Experiencing a new adventure and watching it unfold before your eyes. It’s the best part of the gig.
- If you weren't writing, what would you be doing?
A vet.
- Are there any words of encouragement for unpublished writers?
Keep writing. Enjoy the process. Success will come.
Thank you very much for taking the time with us and answering our questions. I really appreciate this interruption to your busy schedule. Good Luck, and we will be looking forward to the next delightful creation from your talented imagination!
Yours in good reading,
Rose!
