Interview with Author Beth Trissel:
Hi Beth. Thank you for doing this interview. I would like to welcome you to the Romance at Heart Interview and Author Grilling session. *bg* We are interested to find out as much about you as we possibly can, so lets get started...
- Please tell us about your latest book(s).
I had three new releases out in May 2009 with the Wild Rose Press, two American historical romance novels and one light paranormal:
1780 South Carolina, spies and intrigue, a vindictive ghost, the battle of King’s Mountain, Patriots and Tories, pounding adventure, pulsing romance…ENEMY OF THE KING.
A bearwalking Shawnee warrior, secrets from the past, a rugged frontiersman, gifted heroine, magical moonstone, love at first sight…DAUGHTER OF THE WIND
The French and Indian War, a Shawnee warrior, an English lady, blood vengeance, deadly pursuit, primal, powerful, passionate…THROUGH THE FIRE.
All three novels won book of the week from Long and Short Reviews.
My first release, Somewhere My Love, won the 2008 Preditors & Editors Readers Poll for Best Romance Novel.
- What can we expect from you in the future?
More historical romances with a strong Native American or Revolutionary War theme and light paranormals. I often include mystery, ghosts, adventure/suspense and time travel elements in my writing.
- How do we find out about you and your books?
My website has all pertinent info and links: www.bethtrissel.com
- How may readers/fans contact you?
- Do your fans' comments and letters influence you in any way?
Yes. Positive comments motivate me to keep on writing, but I will anyway.
- Why did you decide to write romance novels?
I always loved to read historical romance and finally got the courage to make the leap from non-fiction essays to novels.
- How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?
A lot. And I’m deeply drawn to my ancestral past. My English Scots-Irish forebears were among the earliest settlers in colonial America.
- Generally, how long does it take you to write a book?
The time varies from a few months to several years.
- Do you have a set schedule for writing or do you just go with the flow?
I used to have more of a schedule, but my family has been very demanding of late and now I just write when I can.
- What kind of research do you do?
I do an insane and neverending amount of research for my books.
- What does your husband think of your writing?
My husband is deeply supportive of my writing. So is my family, they just take a lot of my time.
- Who, if anyone, has influenced your writing?
I grew up reading the classics because my father is a college English professor, retired now. My early mentors were among the greats like Charles Dickens and Jane Austen, but I had to learn to write for a modern audience.
- Are you a member of any author groups - RWA, critique groups, etc.?
I’m a member of RWA, Virginia Romance Writers, a number of RWA chapter groups and am a 2008 Golden Heart finalist. I also belong to many writing groups and social networks, like myspace and facebook. I have critique partners, not a group.
- Where do you see yourself in five years?
Still writing, I hope, possibly more fantasy and mystery.
- How long have you been writing - have you always wanted to be a writer?
Ever since I was a child, and yes, for years I wanted to be a writer.
Thank you very much for taking the time with us and answering our questions. I really appreciate this interruption to your busy schedule. Good Luck, and we will be looking forward to the next delightful creation from your talented imagination!
Yours in good reading,
Rose!
