Interview with Anisa Damien:
Hi Anisa. Thank you for doing this interview. I would like to welcome you to the Romance at Heart Interview and Author Grilling session. *bg* We are interested to find out as much about you as we possibly can, so lets get started...
- Generally, how long does it take you to write a book?
Depending on the length of the story; novellas usually 2 weeks; mid-length to longer single works – anywhere from six weeks to four months.
- What is your writing routine?
I work full-time and have a family, so I try to write in the early evenings and early morning sessions on the weekends.
- Do you have a set schedule for writing or do you just go with the flow?
The best time to write for me is while my son is working on homework because then I’m busy when he’s busy and longer writing sessions on the weekends. Other times, I go with the flow and write when those stubborn characters are willing to share information.
- What about your family, do they know not to bother you when you are writing - or are there constant interruptions?
LOL. They know, but do interruptions always happen – yes. Life won’t stop because I’m an author. Life will also intrude in one form or another., just maneuver around it – the best you can.
- Where do your ideas come from?
Ideas seem to strike me wherever I am. Movies, people-watching, TV, the news – the material supply is endless.
- What are your thoughts on love scenes in romance novels, do you find them difficult to write?
I love them, but I believe that love scenes must coincide with the plot. The way your characters make love is just as important as your characters react in a book. I use to have difficulty writing them – when I struggled finding my voice.
- Which comes first, the story, the characters or the setting?
I usually start with a premise, or a little scrap of a profile of a character and it’s off to the races!
- What are the elements of a great romance for you?
For me, I would have to say if I’m not sucked into a story within the first couple of pages, I won’t finish it. It’s the characters, the conflict, the writer’s voice – all melds together that makes a story to me and makes for the ultimate reading experience.
- What is the hardest part of writing/the easiest?
Deciding which idea to go with first is the hardest! The easiest – creating characters.
- Any words of encouragement for unpublished writers?
I was talking to another writing friend about going after your dreams and goals. And a light bulb moment for me was when she said, “No one is going to care as much as you do about you obtaining your dreams.” So, for writers that have yet to be published – know with every fiber of your being that you CAN!
Thank you very much for taking the time with us and answering our questions. I really appreciate this interruption to your busy schedule. Good Luck, and we will be looking forward to the next delightful creation from your talented imagination!
Yours in good reading,
Rose!
