Meet:

Shelby Maxwell

Hi all. My name is Shelby Maxwell. I have been reading and writing romance for two decades. As a homemaker with four children, reading romance became a necessary escape that soon led to writing. Though my heart belonged to fiction, I was first published in nonfiction, fueling my desire to become a novelist. I couldn't and didn’t let rejection derail the dreams, spending the necessary time on honing my craft, starting a local writer’s group, joining RWA and other organizations before becoming a columnist with a local newspaper. I’ve had two poems published, the second, close to my heart mirrors my infant son’s death, has been published by Nobel House Publishers in the US and Europe. My debut novel, A romantic suspense titled The Bodyguard, will be released by Whiskey Creek Press in January 2006. It’s been a long tough road, but one I’ve undertaken with perseverance, determination and resolve. I teach fiction writing in a local community college, where my goal is to teach others the craft I love in hopes it’ll help aspiring writers reach their dreams of publication. I live with my Texas sweetheart, surrounded by my children and grandchildren in the North Carolina Piedmont, where I continue to write and have several works in progress.
